YEP you betcha it's being talked about and yeah I'm sure they will worry about whether some bozo's on a messageboard who wouldn't know their arse from a hole in the ground think the plan won't work. YEP keep up the WEAK stuff Lanny.

This is classic. You talk like you are in the room with these guys making the supersecret plan that you are so in love with.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that in addition to some message board bozos who disagree with "the plan", there are probably a few people who are actually Americans and in a place of influence who disagree with it as well. Do they count?

Bozos? Wow. Those bozos have displayed a lot more understanding of the regional matter than you have. You have actually sat there are nattered on and on about a plan that you yourself admits has not seen the light of day and that the details are super secret. Ironically, you say that its the sanswer to everything. So let me get this straight again. You're standing by some super secret plan that you claim no one has seen (including yourself) and that it answers all the issues that are troubling Iraq, and that everyone else is wrong. Alrighty then. When it comes to bozos there is only one in this thread, and Johnny, you're squeaky red nose isn't on straight again.

And I'll trump your AMERICAN politicos with the countries of the region. What Obama, Biden and Baker have to say means absolutely NOTHING to the leaders of Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, etc. Get it through your thick head, this is an interenational matter that requires international cooperation from a community of countries in the region. The United States has blown their credibility with the majority of nations in the world. A non-partisan group from the United States holds almost as much influence in the Middle East as a non-partisan group from Israel.

Weak stuff? Hey, I'm not the guy running away from pointed questions and using the only defense of dropping the names Baker, Biden and Obama. That is your only defense and everyone can see it. Every time you get called on any of the bull**** you're spewing you drop those three names (and Hollbrooke) and think that answers all questions. Sadly, it answers NOTHING. That is weak Johnny. Being asked direct questions and failing to answer them is weak. Dropping the same names over and over again, and failing to articulate you own understanding of the plan, is beyond weak sauce, it's embarassing.

Really? The questions are still hanging out there. If the plan is so well thought out, and you're so informed on it, you should be able to pick these simplistic questions to pieces. The fact that you keep running away from them and refusing to answer them is proof that you have nothing. This plan is essentially partitioning, and partitioning will not solve problems, it will exacerbate them.

Don't you know that what Americans think dosen't matter. Don't you read Lanny's posts. Turkey et. all don't give a crap what any of them think. Did you miss that?
Don't ya know that the Americans just need to pull out their troops tommorrow and let Iran and Syria handle it. Geez can't ya see that would work?

Well at least he actually answers the questions presented. I have another for you. One of Baker's biggest problems with Biden's plan was how it affected urban settings that were multidiverse. How does Baker's plan affect this? Also, the issue of Baghdad being where the centralized gov't is how does that city work? Is it going to be like Cold war era Berlin?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush introduced Robert Gates on Wednesday afternoon as his nominee to replace Donald Rumsfeld as secretary of defense.
Gates, a former CIA chief, was a member of the Iraq Study Group, a bipartisan panel that is making recommendations to Bush on how to proceed in Iraq.
Gates traveled with the panel to Iraq earlier this year, an experience, Bush said, that will enable Gates to "provide the department with a fresh perspective and new ideas on how America can achieve our goals in Iraq."
Well geez isn't that interesting. Bush selects a member of the panel to be the new Secretary of Defense. A fresh perspective and "new ideas".
Yep another name to add to the list and a freakin big one at that.

Obviously no wear near as intellectually challenged as yourself. Let me put it to you this way. What does the opinion of a member of the Iranian parliment matter to an American or an American politician? Not a damn thing. The opinion of that individual means nothing. To someone in the Middle East, what some politician from the congress in the United States has to say is essentially meaningless. If you believe it does you have bought into the hubris that the majority of Americans have bought into. The incredible level of over-importance that Americans place on their political leaders is embarassing. The politics of the muslim world will be decided by muslims, not by a group of self-important Americans whose government has lost all face in the Middle East and is considered the greatest enemy the region has. The Americans have made a mess in the region. It is highly unlikely that anything they say will hold much weight in the region. The paper tiger has been caged.

The current President of Texas A&M University. A fine learning institution, but I question the significance of his current assignment. Obviously intouch with current international politics.

Ahhh the real Lanny comes to the fore. The anti-American. Nothing either dumb party full of has been politicians or any American has to think/say has any meaning in a country with over a hundred thousand troops keeping the Shia's from exacting revenge or the country from instantly dissolving into those three regions. Nothing guys think who have negotiated succesfully before in dire situations means anything. Yep and meanwhile Muslims who hate each other as much if not more than they hate Americans are going to put together a peace plan.
You live in a fantasy world -- a delusional one!!!

Well there ya go -- A point for you Lanny. The guy has zip experience and is a glorified school teacher.
Was it his twin brother of the same name who was deputy director of the CIA and deputy national security advisor and served in seven presidental administrations.
Yeah nice job of presenting your usual lack of facts -- you are so incredibly WEAK.

Umm, can you point out the parts in where Lanny was being anti-American. At this point you sound like a crazed monkey flinging feces at a wall.
Individual & regional politicos mean nothing to other countries. As an eample, let me run you through this morning's Asahi newspaper:
- Tornado kills nine in Hokkaido
- Educational standards found lax in schools across the country. Over 600 schools failed to teach basic curriculum found on exams.
- Bush loses power. Republicans lose house, balance of power hangs in Senate on Virginia and Montana.
Not a single word about what individual senators said - just that Bush lost his grip on power. And in that context, that's really all that matters on an international scale. Nobody gives a rats ass about the rest, and it would be then easy to say that what some guy in Missouri says means nothing to a Shia Muslim in Tikrit.

You are such a fool. Seriously. The American forces are just trying to stay the hell out of the way and not get killed over there. The American forces have pretty well withdrawn into a protective shell and are trying to maintain Bagdad as a safe zone, and they are failing at that. So yeah, they are really influential in Iraq. Now what do those troops have to do with Turkey, Syria, Suadi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, etc. and their security? Not a damn thing. In fact, their presence decreases the security of each country, but why let a little thing like an Iraqi civil war and a stead flow of refugees spoil your mindless rant?

Yeah, and the Flames should bring back Theo Fleury too! Man, he was one bitchin' hockey player at one time!
Gates is a smart guy and has tons of experience, but from a different time. The world changed on September 11th, whether we want to admit it or not. A lot has happened since this guy left the game and the world has indeed changed. Also, the majority of his experience is in intelligence, not the armed services, so this is also a strike against him. Sure, he'll be much better at cherrypicking intelligence than Rummy was, but the jury is out whether he will handle the military and find synergy with the generals any better. There are guys that are a fit for the job, and I don't see one there. A guy like Anthony Zinni or Wesley Clark would have been a much better fit, but that would have required Bush to reachout to someone from the military that isn't one of his or his father's cronies. But hey, you know better than anyone. Gates is da man!!! JohnnyFlame says so.

Are you INSANE??? What Barack Obama has to say means everything in the world to someone in Tikrit!!! They hang on every word that comes from Obama's mouth. Of course that pales in comparison to what James Baker says. James Baker is the voice of Allah in the muslim world. Man, you just don't appreciate the importance of American politicans in the "real world".

If I'm a fool then you are freakin DOLT of incredible proportions. You have zero qualifications to determine whether Gates is fit for the job. ZERO. Nor do you have any qualifications whatsoever to speak for any countries policy--ZERO. You don't have the slightest freakin clue what Turkey or any other countries policy would be --NONE. What are your qualifications that anybody with a brain would take your opinon. Meanwhile Obama and Biden are elected Senators. Baker and Holbrooke have tons of experience and a record.
I'm sticking with those who actually have qualifications -- You have ZERO.

Wow, that's pathetically weak, even for you Johnny. Proof you have no argument and no knowledge of the topic what so ever. Complete ignorance of the evidence posted by myself and others. Rouge was right on the money with his assessment. Now run along and hold your breath until someone agrees with you.

Well, since this was originally a "predictions" thread, I thought it might be instructive to post the final (such as they are) results of the elections, as reported by MSNBC. Note that CNN hasn't called any race where the results are within 1%, so their numbers look somewhat different.
House:
Democrats: 234 (A pickup of 33)
Republicans 201 (A loss of 32--one independent seat was won by Democrats)
Senate:
Democrats 51
Rebublicans 49
As far as I can remember, none of us predicted that the night would go that well for the Democrats. Though many of the margins were small, I'd say this qualifies as a wave. I'm still amazed that they didn't screw this one up like they usually do.
