By the way, if anyone is going tonight I'd be interested in Treliving's thoughts on Brandon Hickey and the likelihood of signing him after he graduates next year...

I would also like to know if they intend to have Falkovsky back in the ECHL or promote him to the AHL after his dominant year.

Someone needs to ask King how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Look, they had nothing but positives about Klimchuk. Tre just pointed out that he was injured and they won't know how much he's progressed until they see him in camp. Most likely, because of the injury, he'll still be in recovery mode and have to wait longer to make it up. It's up to him to prove he can get in now. Make no mistake, they are very high on him.

Yeah, Klimchuk has his season end due to a concussion.

That leaves a lot of question marks going forward.

95% renewal is impressive. I was thinking lower, based on the price bump.

The support is still there if that is the case but it is softening. I know we seriously considered not renewing.

Do not like the drafting a goalie in the top 2 rounds every 2 years. Draft a goalie every two years sure, even top 4 rounds if you need to, but top two rounds is steep.

Interesting. The team will learn who was selected by Vegas during the NHL awards like the rest of us.

Is that a revenue retention figure or customer retention. The former would allow them to paint a more rosey picture

Some other things KK said about the stadium design:

- It's going to be a steeper bowl - bringing the fans closer to the action
- He stated that in public his comments have to be all positive about the new Edmonton building
- He specifically mentioned the Columbus and Minnesota stadiums as models to follow
- An audience question was asked about why the concourse of the Edm arena still had the same old food options, when stadiums in the states have nice restaurants, better and more lively concourses, etc.
- You could tell that some of the criticisms of the Edm arena were valid to KK, but he couldn't say anything in public - someone brought up the bathrooms for instance.
- He mentioned that one of the architects of the design was present and that we'd really like what they've come up with
- As a bonus comment - one (quite a bit older fan) said that McMahon was so terrible they needed to burn it down.

I think it's because they want to be proactive rather than reactive. Good goalie prospects usually start going in the 2nd so that's when they target them. If they wait until the 4th round, they may not get their guy.

Random tidbit. Looking over the Flames goalie drafting history there was a three-year stretch where they picked 5 goalies: Craig Anderson, Matt Underhill, Brent Krahn, Levente Szuper, Andrei Medvedev. Talk about a dark time when the only one to do anything went unsigned and re-entered the draft.

Seems like an odd thing to complain about for a fan of a team that hasn't drafted and developed a goalie since the 1980's and failed to have anything legitimate in the pipe line ready to take over for Kipper when he finally hung them up after being run into the ground because he had to start 70+ games season after season because the team never had a legit back up option for him.

From 2003 to 2010 the Flames drafted 5 goalies.

2003 - None
2004 - Spratt (7th)
2005 - Lalande (5th), Keetley (5th)
2006 - None
2007 - Irving (1st)
2008 - None
2009 - Ortio (6th)
2010 - None

Only one guy taken in the first two rounds over those 8 drafts.

Out of those drafts however, of goalies taken in the 1st 2 rounds 16 of them have played 100+ games in the NHL, including names like Crawford, Schneider, Rask, Allen and Lehner.

Sure you can luck out and find goalies in the later rounds, but I think with anything else your odds increase the higher you take them.

This thing has stampitecture written all over it. Not optimistic.

Plus typically when you're drafting a goalie in the 2nd round, you're getting one of the top 2-4 goalies in that particular draft. It is almost like getting an additional top 10 pick in a way as you're getting a top tier prospect out of the deal.

If you end up getting lucky, you end up in a situation like the Flames currently find themselves in with Gillies and Parsons and like Anaheim did with Gibson and Andersen or SJ with Nabokov, Toskala, Hedberg, and Kipper (all in one draft which is lunacy)

I really like the part about a steeper bowl bringing fans closer to the action, seems like a throwback idea. It'll make the C of Red even more intimidating come playoff time

The design is going to be rushed or they'll take just the rink half of NEXT further.

I agree about drafting goalies but everything you said in the second part is dead wrong. Nabokov round 9, Kipper round 5, Toskala round 4, Hedberg drafted by Philly. Kipper and Toskala 95, Nabokov 94??, Hedberg....still philly, round 9 in '94. Brutal examples dude.
