Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Well I guess removing all context of his response to the question he was asked about not having draft picks in the second and third is certainly one way of framing an argument.

If Treliving could figure out a way to dump Brouwer and pick up Neal, I'd be ecstatic going into next season.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Neal
Stajan - Lazar - Hathaway
Keep Jankowski in the AHL to start the season and bring him up if there are injuries. That would be a tough top 9 to match up against and it gives Bennett some significant skill to work with as he establishes himself offensively. Drop Bouma to the AHL.

Wasn't Neal rumoured to have some character flaws or off-ice issue? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Not sure if already reported, pretty sure I am going to sureLoss'd, but according to TSN Ducks have a deal in place with LV, and avoid asking Bieksa to waive his NMC.

It's believed ANA has a pre-arranged deal in place with VGK so it isn't necessary to ask Kevin Bieksa to waive his NMC.

No I think his issues are mostly of the on-ice variety

So assuming that Neal will be left exposed, which I have my doubts, than Nashville is probably protecting:
Subban
Josi
Ekholm
Ellis
Forsberg
Johanson
Arvidsson
Smith/Jarnkrok
Rinne
That leaves, most notably, Neal, Wilson and Jarnkrok/Smith. I don't see how Vegas could pass up on Neal in that scenario even with just 1 year left on his contract.
But if they trade Neal for a "pick and/or a prospect" the Knights are likely taking one of Wilson, Smith or Jarnkrok.
Wilson didn't have the strongest of playoffs, but he's shown to be a 20-20 guy when not injured. Smith had a poor season statistically but he still put up three 20+ goals the three year prior. Jarnkrok is making 2M a year for awhile while being a 15-15 player.
The Predators aren't going to just give Neal away for a pick and/or a prospect because he's left exposed. Doing so would mean losing Neal and one of Smith/Wilson/Jarnkrok. The team would probably just be better off letting Vegas take Neal, unless the pick is high enough or the prospect good enough.

Unless he craps the bed in camp, I'm betting Janko is the 4th line centre on opening night. If he's not taken by the Preds, Stajan spends most of the season on the wing or in the press box.

Stajan on Janko's wing is perfect for a vet who's lost a step. Hes a good influence and he can step in if faceoffs are an issue, or if Janko needs some wing-time.

Well seriously...if we aquire a former 40 goal scorer who wants to play RW had 23 in 70 in an "off year" he is starting on line 1 not line 3.

No, it was an endorsement. The implication for the fans was, "don't feel like we lost a 2nd rounder, be excited that we acquired Lazar".
At the STH session, Burke or BT (can't remember) thought that Lazar could be with the Flames for 10+ years. They like him.

Neal would be amazing on this team. He would add another level of dirtbagginess that is sorely needed, not to mention he would really solidify our RW situation. Imagine a line of Tkachuk-Bennett-Neal... it would drive teams batty and has potential to really elevate Bennett. Or you could just throw him up there with 13 and 23 but I think Bennett deserves some quality linemates for a change. Adding Neal really makes the lineup look a lot scarier.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Bennett-Neal
???-Backlund-Frolik
Stajan-Jankowski-Lazar
??? Could be Versteeg but I'm kind of hoping they go in a different direction. Ideally a guy like Shinkaruk or Poirier would take that spot... I'm just hoping it's not Bouma. I'm not opposed to Ferland on the top line, I honestly think he would be a 20-20 guy there if left there all season as his style really compliments Monahan and Gaudreau.

Okay, I appreciate the elaboration, but I disagree. He is a consistent mid-20s goal scorer who has had a couple really strong years, but I don't think he is at the level where he has to be a lock as a first line player. He wasn't a first line guy this year.
The other reason I disagree is that the Flames don't seem to organize lines with the most skilled guys at the top. They balance out the lines and icetime. Just seems like a good way to strengthen Bennett's line and I think you might get them a lot of favorable matchups on the road.

If the preds have to expose Neal, I hope the flames try to make a move for him. He's basically exactly what we thought we were getting in Brouwer.

Flames assure Bennett he's not getting traded.

@Kristen_Odland
Funniest question from a fan was about Ovechkin rumours for Sam Bennett (not true).

Quote:
@Kristen_Odland
Brian Burke tells a story about how the Flames called Bennett out of courtesy to dispel the rumours.... (cont'd)

Quote:
@Kristen_Odland
Bennett (jokingly) goes "Well, you'd have to look at that trade." Treliving says "It wouldn't be one-for-one, pal."

One can only naturally assume he means the Caps would have to add.
