Well, this is getting embarrassing.
At least we have the jersey unveiling to be looking forward to be disappointed with.

I don't really see anything wrong with what he said. Of course the Flames will make a business decision and leave if they are still in the saddledome in 10 years. Were people shocked the Islanders moved from Nassau Coliseum?

It's almost like his employers aren't part of a class action lawsuit involving concussions.

No kidding. Burke obviously wasn't thinking when he said that.

This organization is making me feel like a fool for renewing my season tickets for the 16th year.

What's the average profit. Like 20-30 million a year?
Wouldn't even cover the interest.

No. Thats the problem. They dont always get to make that decision because they operate within a group (the NHL).
They own the Franchise, but its not like they can take their ball and and leave whenever or wherever they want.
Like any good Franchiser, the owner of the brand will remove a bad Franchise.
Could they move the Flames to Alert? They own it so they can do what they want?
No. The NHL would not greenlight a move to any location that is in any way less profitable than the current one.
Its the same reason Katz's Seattle vacation was a vacuous threat.
They do not have the power or authority to just 'move the team' anywhere they want and the sad part is that pretty much everyone knows it, so saying that they'll do it is akin to a child stomping their feet and pounding their fists in the midst of an ineffective tantrum.
And like that child, they should just stop.

This situation is different than Islanders moving a couple counties over to Brooklyn. The fee for moving the Thrasher to Winnipeg involved a relocation fee. And recently, the NHL was fishing for a $500 million dollar expansion fee from Quebec. I can't see the NHL letting the Flames move to Quebec (or anywhere) for less than a few hundred million. Which is likely enough for the Flames to put into a new arena anyways. Another situation is the Flames owners sell to Quebec for net worth. But doesn't Gary Betman make sure to source for local owners before letting other cities come in? I think there a few wealthy people in Calgary who would buy the team first and then do what they had to do to get an arena built.
But in any case, I don't take Brian Burke very seriously at these events.

Wouldn't the PA would carry a big stick if the Flames move and threaten to decline hockey related revenue? If I was the PA I would sue the league if the Flames moved from Calgary to Seattle. Would be a clear detriment to their members.

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out and take that King fellow with ya. Maybe Edwards can get London to build him an arena.

That's nonsense. If it turns out that there is no arena coming in Calgary Bettman would relocate in an instant.
That would instantly turn Calgary into a non viable market. Chargers and Oakland were profitable teams with solid fan bases. No arena, no team. Pretty straight forward.

If they did one would hope that a bigwig at Stewart-Haas Racing or Hendrick Motorsports wouldn't blabber something about autoracing not being being hopscotch while the case is still being litigated.

It would only be a non-viable market if no one else wanted to buy it. Bettman is on record as only supporting relocation in instances where there was no local ownership option.

For me, comments like Burkes made it easier for me to say no to sharing tickets this year.
Outside of loyalty rooted in childhood memories, and Treliving, there's honestly not a ton I really like about the Flames as an organization these days. They used to just be incompetent... but these days they also come across as greedy and arrogant. Not sure if it was the difference between a Hotchkiss-led group and an Edwards-led one, but they definitely don't come across as likeable.

I didn't see the interview earlier but based on some of the quotes from Burke, maybe the Flames should look at having someone else speak for the team

No. Because even with the oldest arena in the League the Calgary Flames are among the top 10 most profitable Franchises in the League.
At the end of the day though, there will be a new arena, I dont think theres any doubt there, at the moment its a just a tug-of-war match about 'who will pay how much.'
Thats the thing. Where could they go and make more money? Even with an antique rink?
