Trump.... I get the impression he's very insecure and takes a very cynical view of the very democracy he leads. Its disappointing.

Trump brought up Russian hookers? Lol.

And Trump asking Comey to let the Flynn investigation go is obstruction. Pretty clear imo.

To be fair, Comey not acting on the planted Russian intel on the emails would have done far more damage to Clinton's campaign than him acting on it.

I'm no law expert or anything, but Trump did ask him straight up to let the Flynn thing go, and he clearly tried to pressure Comey into being "loyal" to him. Wouldn't that be enough to constitute obstruction of justice? Or is this just an example of Comey's word against Trump's? Doesn't sound like there any tapes or proof of these conversations other than Comey's personal notes, so maybe you're right and Trump will escape unscathed yet again.

Man, what a clown show. If this were Obama or any other Democrat, impeachment hearings would be well underway by this point.

To me it's not that there's necessarily clear-cut obstruction in anything that Trump said to Comey. It's that they paint a more clear motive of exactly why Comey was fired (which very likely was obstruction if it was done to quash the Russia investigation).

From the statement:
The President then returned to the topic of Mike Flynn, saying, “He is a good guy and has been through a lot.” He repeated that Flynn hadn’t done anything wrong on his calls with the Russians, but had misled the Vice President. He then said, “I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.” I replied only that “he is a good guy.” (In fact, I had a positive experience dealing with Mike Flynn when he was a colleague as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency at the beginning of my term at FBI.) I did not say I would “let this go.”
Obstruction of justice legally seems to require proof of intent, and I think Trump's statement on the news goes further to prove his intent than I think that does.

But ultimately it doesn't matter, because it's not a legal standard that's required for Trump, any action against him would be impeachment and that's whatever the house decides it is. If they did it Obstruction seems like it could easily be on the list, but it still requires the Republican lead house to decide he's harmful enough to get rid of. And they care about their party and the impact on them first it seems, or enough of them anyway.

The Comey statement is absolutely engrossing. Wapo has an annotated version in progress for those interested.

The most interesting part is that it shows exactly how Trump does business: gets people in a one on one situation, pressures them to do what he wants including by way of subtle threats, publicly chastise and defame them if they don't comply. And there's a catch 22: even if you do comply, he'll still throw you to the dogs later if it serves his own interests.

Tomorrow is going to be fascinating, but I'll bet it's disappointing too as we watch Republicans attack the credibility of a man who has tried to do his level best, all to protect their own party and the thug at the head of it.

Can we stop using this word?

It really brings down the quality of the site, and quite frankly although I know you don't care that it makes you look bad, I don't want to be painted with the same brush.
