When healthy, Tanev would be a perfect partner for Brodie.
Not at the rumored high return the canucks supposedly want though.

Great save Tanev

I will say I don't really understand why the Canucks would be trying so hard to unload Tanev seeing he's only 27 when most defensemen are just entering their prime years. Even if it takes say five years to rebuild he's still probably a decent defensemen in his early 30's. They already have a really bad roster and removing him may make them worse that Las Vegas so it appears their plan is now to spend the next three or four years with the best lottery odds of picking first overall in hoping they can get some lottery magic and do an Oilers rebuild.

Chris Tanev looks like Drew Doughty in his own end and Deryk Engelland in the offensive zone. It's actually impressive how one-sided his game is. The quintessential stay-at-home defenceman without the size usually attributed to that description.

Tanev is an unbelievable player, but his injury history is horrendous. He's never been able to play a full season in his career. I hope Dallas doesn't trade their 3rd overall pick for him. Would hate to see Vancouver leave the draft with two of Vilardi, Heiskanen, Pettersson or Glass.

Not necessarily in style of play, but Tanev reminds me of what Lydman used to be. Good or passable at everything, but not great at a lot. Solid player for sure, but should be a 2nd or 3rd paring guy on a good team.

Exactly. The Flames would have had 0 playoff appearances had we dealt Giordano while rebuilding.
The problem is, the Canucks don't have many pieces they can realistically get a big return for. They have Tanev and Edler, since trading the Sedins is a logistical nightmare.

We kicked off our rebuild without getting anything in return for "selling".
Bouwmeester? Nothing.
Iginla? Nothing.
Kipper? Nothing.
Regehr? Negative 2nd round pick.
We didn't actually get any "big returns" while selling until we were a playoff team again. So, I wouldn't really call it a problem for the Canucks.

Yeah but as was said the team had Gio who was their leader, best defensemen and best player. Sedins will retire at the end of the season and you are looking at a team where Bo Horvat would be their best player by a long shot if they move Tanev. That's not good as you need a few good players as we saw with the Oilers the culture of losing is hard to kick and it took a generational player to turn that around and chances are the Canucks will have to wait a very long time to strike gold like that.

Latest Wild expansion talk from Wild beat writter Mike Russo:
https://twitter.com/Russostrib/statu...35453772922881
Says the Wild will protect one of Brodin or Dumba and will trade the other. Will likely leave Staal exposed.
Staal could be of big interest to Vegas because of the lack of center depth in the expansion draft.

Steve Mason?
That sounds pretty likely

Tanev is great in the defensive zone. His stick, his positioning, his reads, and his outlet are all top-tier. He's a top pairing defenseman on every team in the league as long as his partner is an offensive producer. I would rather have Tanev than Niklas Hjalmarsson or Shea Weber, for example.

Hjalmasson, sure. But Weber? That's laughable.
Tanev is a great #3. He is not a top pairing guy on a good team. Pair him with a good, offensive second pairing guy like a Sekera, and you have a very good second pair.
If Tanev is on your top pairing, you have a weak defense.

Anyways I recall from the Subban trade that you and I disagree on Weber anyways, so let's just drop it.

The one thing I'd give Eklund is that he does seem to have some level of sources close to the Flyers, so he may have actually heard something regarding Mason/Flames.
That being said, he's still full of crap. Let's not forget though, he's way more credible than that RumorBreak crud.

I understand why people would take eklund with a large grain of salt, but the Flames having serious interest in Mason makes a lot of sense.
He's maybe not a guy that's going to make the Flames an immediate contender, but he'll be middle of the road and considering what's available, that might be the best we can hope for barring a trade.

I'd welcome Mason to the Flames with open arms and a three year contract.

I know its Orange Julius-ish, but I heard even Hextall didn't want Mason on team Canada at the worlds. If that is true it is pretty telling.
