Brit Films
I just want to know if any of you guys have seen any of these 2 movies:
Football Factory
The Business
If you have not then i highly recommend you guys watch them. Two amazing films that are in your face, very realistic and gritty. None of that American Glossiness in our movies.
If you have seen Football Factory, how does the British soccer scene compare with that of Hockey over there. Is there any real violence between fans on this scale?

its a shame that the great atmosphere of a football match can be ruined by a bunch of louts who think fighting makes a match worthwhile. but when you see the film you understand their mind set, the opening monologue is so good.
sadly us England fans are finding it all too hard to shake the hooligan image a minority of our fans have caused.
Passion does not mean violence but for some that is a sentance pronounced "daahh, errggghh, nnnmm, wanker"

Football Factory is good but I think Green Street is better. Just a better movie overall, more unexpected turns. Never heard of The Business, but if I see it here I'll rent it.

Green street was no where near as good, not as realistic, they introduced and American character for the sake of the US market and it made the story unrealistic in my eyes. A hardcore firm of fans would never let a new person in especially an American who calls it soccer.
The business is about the drug trade in Spain during the 80s when all the British gangsters moved there to avoid jail in the Uk.
Great film, great soundtrack too. Please do check it out.

Yeah, there was some suspension of disbelief there in the beginning but I liked how the movie didnt really follow the forumla once that big leap of logic was set down. FF was a little predictable I think. One weird thing is that they both featured a big match against Millwall, thought that was kinda odd.
While we are on the topic of unrealistic, what did you think of Goal? I know I probably wouldnt have enjoyed it as much if it wasnt NUFC that he went to. I'll watch the next one when he gets transferred to Madrid but Im sure I'll notice the cheesiness more.
I'll check out The Business for sure if it's available here.

Goal was pure cheese but lighthearted fun none the less. Goal 2 may get a little worse as i think he moves to Real Madrid and wins the Champions league. We have just finished goal 3 aswell i think, where he manages to win the world cup.... getting a little unbelievable now.
Oh and as for both films featuring games against Millwall....
not a real suprise if you have ever been to 'the den' which is their home ground. Everyone here understands Millwalls reputation that they are a bunch of racist hooligans so they had to feature as the main enemy in the film. Millwall have so mnay rivals because of their reputation and they get hit on a lot. But the funny thing is their team really really suck.

What's going on with our Newcastle side? The Magpies are in danger of getting relegated. Missing all their strikers, and not playing good defence.

Oh man....they need to get better trainers or something. 2 friggin years in a row with all these injuries (though I guess no one can be blamed for Owen and Given's injuries). There is just no one to get any goals from! At least they got rid of Boumsoung that meat head. If he was still on the club we'd probably have even less points.
Thankfully we are competing in the Cups. That should give Fat Freddy some more cash to throw around in January (if they are ready to lose more money this year). If we get relegated...arg...that would be devastating. I cant imagine how many decent players we would lose if that happened. That would be a huge set back..makes me sick to even think about.
By the way, if you want to borrow Green Street let me know. I have the UK DVD. You can play it on your comp in Windows Media.

On the topic of football movies, Mean Machine with Vinnie Jones is a good one, as well as A Shot At Glory, which has Ally McCoist (LEGEND) in it. Both pretty good, although a little cheesy.

A shot at glory and when saturday comes and 2 very bad movies... but then i do like that American football film with Neo in it - The Replacements.
I cannot think of a truly great film based around football. I am sure someone will correct me though.
I really hope you guys get to watch the business.

'north dallas 40' isn't bad - though 'any given sunday' hits a similar theme, the ridiculousness of it all and its effect on those involved.

Yeah I enjoyed Mean Machine as well, very good.
A couple of films that Clive Owen made before he hit it big in North America are worth checking out also: The Croupier and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead.
