Hoffman, who was traded for Tulo doing well in Colorado
Quote:
Hoffman was a first round selection of the Blue Jays (8th overall) in the 2014 draft. He came over to Colorado as part of the deadline deal in 2015 that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays. If he continues to pitch like this, the Rockies will look like they made out like bandits in that deal.
Hoffman racked up a career-best nine strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits over seven dazzling innings. The only blemish on his afternoon was a solo homer surrendered to Hunter Renfroe.
He now owns a scintillating 2.61 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 26/2 K/BB ratio through 20 2/3 innings on the season.

I remember when the original Tulo trade was reported they had indicated Hoffman was not part of the package which made me happier than a pig in ####, only to wake up the next morning and realize that was wrong.

That was a tough one for me as well. He was the 1 prospect at the time I really didn't want to see them trade. Get they had to and losing Reyes and his contract alone may have been worth it but I fear they are going to have a Noah Syndegaard situation on their hands.

I took comfort in the fact that I figured they could just turn around and trade Tulo to someone else for another Hoffman type prospect, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Tulo is done as an offensive threat.

Came across this article..
Tepera wants to be a starter
Quote:
“I talked about it with (pitching coach) Pete (Walker) and Gibby (manager John Gibbons) a little bit when we had a lot of starters go down earlier in the season,” said Tepera. “Now that I know myself a little better mechanically-wise, pitching-wise, I think I could go back to starting. And they think so, too.
“It would probably be something we’d have to work on next year in spring training, and I would have to develop the changeup a little better,” he added. “I was throwing it early on this spring and it was actually pretty good, I had a good feel for it although lately I’ve just been going with the bread and butter (fastball, sinker) and not even worrying about (the changeup). But it’s still in my back pocket.”

Looks like Travis did not break his hand when he was hit by a pitch, but I doubt he'll play for at least a few games here. I like the guy at second especially with his play at the plate, but he does seem to get injured much more often than other guys. Not necessarily saying this injury was his fault (it was not), but it's hard to really like the guy long term when he misses so much time.

I've always viewed Travis as a sell high type of guy for those concerns. Good offence, but you can't count him to be in the lineup when you need him and his D is pretty pedestrian ( you could even argue possibly below average). If he put together a season batting around .300 and hit 10-15 homeruns, i'd be moving him for some high end major-league ready prospects if there was a deal on the table for that.

In today's MLB, batting average is meaningless, and guys who can hit 15 home runs are dime a dozen.
If he could establish himself as a 800+ OPS guy you might find some interest. But I don't know if Travis will ever be much better than a 330 On base guy, so that's going to require he hit more than 15 home runs to get the slugging numbers up. Aaron Hill hit 36 home runs, and piles of doubles one year and still didn't slug 500 despite a reasonable batting average.

Hopefully it doesn't throw the Jays off.
Can't afford to waste anymore games against crap teams, like Atlanta for example.

I didn't care if we lost Hoffman, I said back then that Tulo was a premier SS and arguably the best one in the league at the time. For them to get him at that price was well worth it. Was there a chance Hoffman would develop to be an Ace? IIRC, there was a small chance. If you had the chance today I'm sure you'd take Hoffman back, but there was no way most of us wouldn't do that when the deal was made. Tulo will still bring back a decent return given his name and position, so I have no issue with the chance we took.

What is Pillar doing there? He has to be one of the least intelligent base runners in the game. The bat had nothing to do with that. He was DOA.

There is Danny Barnes being "mostly terrible" again. 1 2/3 innings with no base runners 1 K and his ERA down under 3 now.
Come on Jays. Let's get to .500 for #### sakes
