Why? So he wouldn't be perceived as a lying hypocrite?

That stat above is the number of gun deaths per year, not the number of guns. Its posting was kind of irrelevant as a response to the "imagine how much higher the death too would have been if..." statement. First, because overall gun ownership rate is unimportant - what's important is did the actual attackers have guns or not? And second, because we don't have to "imagine" anything... We have ample stats available for attacks both with and without firearms involved. With a few notable exceptions, it's always more catastrophic when guns are in play.

Watergate lawyer has been drafted into the DOJ Special Counsel investigation of the Trump Russia scandal

Quote:
Robert Mueller isn’t starting his work investigating Russia’s influence on the 2016 election alone, he’s also bringing along a veteran Watergate prosecutor and another man who he’s worked closely with him before.

James Quarles, who started his career working on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force, and Aaron Zebley, Mr Mueller’s chief of staff at the FBI, are joining the investigation.

Another Watergate veteran says that Mr Quarles’ prior experience in such a high-stakes investigation will only help stabilise the process.

“There is nothing comparable to the kind of pressure and obligation that this kind of job puts on your shoulders,” Richard Ben-Veniste, a lawyer who served as a special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal, told CNN describing Mr Quarles’ unique qualifications. “Having been there before, gives him the confidence to know how to do it and how to do it right.”

Lol, ok. For the majority of his constituency it's not; that's exactly the problem.

Reminder: When you work for Trump, ensure you apply for "thrown under the bus insurance". It's things like this that make you wonder if he isn't simple trying to get impeached.

Looking forward to his tweet when there's a cold snap in July about "Where's the global warming?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

Apparently it looks like Trump is leaving most of the top jobs in government empty, with little to no replacements, solely because Trump demands absolutely loyalty for the jobs. This is impacting US/NATO national security since over 90% of vacant Pentagon positions remain unfilled as Trump hasn't nominated replacements. Apparently most of Trump's validation process of a nominee involves heavy scrutiny of the candidates twitter history. I find it insane that this is even a requirement for the position.

Quote:
Four months into his presidency, Donald Trump has filled only five of the 53 top jobs at the Pentagon – the slowest pace for nominations and confirmations in over half a century.

Several of his high-profile picks, including Navy and Army secretary nominees, have had to withdraw because of their business entanglements. In other cases, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis has clashed with the White House, which has blacklisted national security and defense leaders who publicly disagreed with Trump during the 2016 campaign, according to several current and former defense officials.

“In the vetting process there is a lot of scrutiny of social media accounts, Twitter . . . any hint of something negative about Trump as a candidate can be disqualifying, and a lot of people haven’t made it through that filter,” said Christine Wormuth, who served as the Pentagon’s top policy official from 2014 to 2016.

Now the escalating investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials is also scaring off people who’d been on the fence about joining the administration. Even the opportunity to work under Mattis, who many of the potential picks know and respect, may not be enough.

“With, frankly, the chaos that is happening, people who might have been open to it are asking themselves ‘Do I want to join this administration? How much of an impact will I have? Will I have to get a lawyer?’ ” Wormuth said.

America might be the most powerful nation in the world, but Trump ought to be careful over just how many major countries he upsets.

This is a huge issue with hurricane season starting up. Neither the NOAA nor FEMA have leaders at the moment. If we were to have a season like 2004 or 2005 without those positions filled, it could spell a whole lot of catastrophe.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/02/us/noa...ncy/index.html

At this moment, the US isn't properly capable of handling a major terrorist attack, a major natural disaster, or any other number of issues.

The beauty of the Russian strategy is that Trump is just making the American government look incompetent and dysfunctional...and if he were ever to start getting it back into shape and aligned against Russian interests...hello peepee tape or money laundering evidence.

Impeaching this donkey can't happen soon enough

Liberals better come off their arrogant stance whenever Trump does something easily dismissed as 'illegal'. His intention isn't to play within the rules of the US legal system, and this morning he is showing the most dangerous version of himself yet.

I'm wondering when the other leaders of the G8 start having G7 meetings, i.e. The US is not invited.
