I think it can also happen when they have 4 or 5 guys rated pretty close. Move from 16 to 20 pick up a draft pick and still be pretty confident you will get a guy you like.

Not to derail a thread thats going 100 different directions at once, and I don't think we should start down this path either, but I don't think that word means what you think it means...

What are you talking about? The poster in question referred to the Sedins as "sisters", implying that being that gender would make them worse. Is that not textbook misogyny?

I don't think so...
noun
1.
a person who hates, dislikes, mistrusts, or mistreats women.
Not the same thing - at least in my mind.

I mean, calling the Sedins "sisters" as an insult would seem to be disparaging of females.
...Right? Am I alone in thinking this?

I don't want to de-rail this thread but it would be nice if folks could find a different term to use for the Sedins than "sisters".
The implication is that they are female and therefore inferior.
It's also just really not clever or funny.
So find something else.

Depends.
If there's a guy available at 16 you think has a 80% chance of becoming a 2nd liner/2nd pairing dman vs trading down a bunch of spots and grabbing a guy that is only 50% or who doesn't have top two line, top 4 dman upside then no, I don't think it would be worth it.
It all depends on who they think will fall to them, the upside of those players, the value being offered to move down, who they think they would get there and the upside of the players from the extra pick(s). It's a complex equation and not as simple as saying more rolls of the dice is always better.
Of course they will talk this through beforehand. Button, the scouts and management will sort through the tiers of this draft. Typically teams won't trade out of a tier they like unless the offer is crazy good. When teams trade down is when all the players they hoped would fall are taken and they think they can trade down and get multiple players from the next tier.

Calling the Sedins "sisters" does not mean that you hate women. So yes your use of misogynist was questionable.
That said it is a silly nickname, juvenile and petty.

Jiri just to clarify, it's meant as a slight to their masculinity and has nothing to do with women being inferior. Surely we all know by now the average man is larger and stronger than the average woman. That said I agree the term doesn't have a place here because I feel it's childish and we should be above any sort of name calling.

That's crap analysis. Take anyone's best player out and they don't do as well.
It doesn't mean European players aren't gritty enough for POs.
Anyway, back atcha - does Pittsburgh win without Malkin? Seems to me he had more points than Crosby in 09. Last year he had but one less.
How many cups does LA win without Kopitar? How many does Detroit win without Datsyuk or Lidstrom or Zetterberg? Does Boston win without Chara and Kreiji? Chicago needed Hossa to get over the top.

Well, not any name calling: I'm happy enough saying McDiver, or, back in the day, Collar McBroken.

Yep. I am sure there are idiots who call the tennis sisters the "Williams brothers". I promise it's not because they feel that males are somehow inferior.

I admit I always get a good laugh at "the tenderness". I feel the sisters is more mean spirited but I suppose it's not up to the posters to decide where the goalposts lie for this kind of stuff.
