She brought a dog in for show and tell and supervised a field trip. Hardly groundbreaking.
Is she not allowed in public with kids or at the playground? Is it much different?
Wasn't required a background check because she wasn't allowed to be alone with kids according to the school.

No, she shouldn't be. Why do you think there's outrage when male sex offenders are released? She's no different. She raped and murdered two young girls. Sorry, she shouldn't be around kids, let alone have her own, ever.

A female sex offender is usually better at manipulation. When they are sociopaths you end up with Karla Homolka.

I am still really surprised she didn't have to do a background check to go on a field trip. My wife occasionally volunteers at our sons school and she couldn't do anything until here police check had been completed.

Um. No.
History tells us that in regards to young girls her preferred state is 'raping and murdering' so....probably not a good person to, you know, have around young girls....
I get the rest of it, she danced her way around some well-deserved jailtime, but that doesnt mean she should be free and clear.
Okay, her kids go to that school. I dont see why she should be anywhere near it.

I have run a sport organization before that had under aged kids and everyone had to do a police check that volunteered. There is no way a volunteer who had a criminal history would be able to participate/help us, let alone a notorious killer. The backlash we would have received from the parents would have been nuts. I can't imagine how many more phone calls we would have received on top of all emails and personal visits.
This is just bad judgement and they should know better, she should be relieved of her volunteer duties immediately. What parent would want this person around their child? I know I wouldn't.

Sure, she can walk around the neighborhood with her own kids but at a playground by herself or at the school? No. I don't care if she wouldn't be left alone. Could you imagine the teachers having to pay more attention to her than the kids because they would be nervous having her around. Maybe some people are naive and don't know her history, maybe. I don't know.
She should be treated like any other sex offender and shouldn't be allowed within a certain distance of any school.

Dont forget, I do believe she has changed her name so that might fool some people initially.

So, just to confirm, you all understand this is a private Christian school she's "volunteering" at, and not the public, government-run school system? The tenor of much of thee outrage seems to be directed at how our public institutions are failing kids, but that's not accurate, as it's a private institution. The article - though I know nobody reads THAT - explicitly mentions this.

Private, Catholic, public...it doesn't really matter, does it? I don't want Karla Homolka around normal kids, let alone the Christian ones.

I was reading a bit more about the history of her story and my step son asked me what I was reading about. I told him the basics (no details, just that she helped her husband rape and murder teenaged girls) and he asked me why she would help him do that and why is she even out of jail? Ya, it is mind boggling. I said that I don't really know how that happens. Then I asked him if he would want to be around a mom at his school who was known for this and he said absolutely not, she is an evil person.
I agree with the posters above, it doesn't matter what kind of school she is at, they should have some moral standards for safety of the children in their school. She does not deserve to live a normal life, I think she should be run out of town no matter where she goes it is just unfortunate she has kids, not their fault at all that this kind of stuff will likely keep happening. She must go through life thinking about the things she did on a daily basis, she killed her own sister for F sakes. Why shouldn't she suffer as the victim's families have.

Mulcair says we should all forgive her and move on. Gee, sure, everyone should just do that, Mulcair. Or, you can pound sand, like my mother and her similar suggestions regarding her feck-arse brother who molested me. Because, you know, it probably wasn't really all that bad and it's "the christian thing to do." Yeah, I'm not a christian, thanks, and I'm not giving him any more than he already took, ya feckhead.
Quote:
After the discovery that Karla Homolka has volunteered at an N.D.G. school made headlines across the country, NDP leader Thomas Mulcair suggested it might be time to forgive and move on.
“Everybody is going to have to take their own stock of that and ensure that first and foremost that the security of their kids is taken care of,” Mulcair said in Ottawa Wednesday. “Beyond that, it becomes a question of forgiveness,” he added, pointing out that Homolka had “paid her debt” to society.
“If you’re ensuring the safety of the kids, beyond our revulsion at the horror of the crime, is there any room for atonement and forgiveness?” he asked.

Christian kids are like, more delicious though, because they're all pure. They're like the Kobe beef of children.
