Default CapFriendly Expansion Draft Thingy: Draft your Knights!

So, I just discovered CapFriendly's expansion draft picker, and thought it would be fun to see what people put together with it.

Here's my Golden Knights: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/65143

(Here's a screenshot for people who don't want to click the link.)
Spoiler!

My plan, if I were the GM, would be to focus on young BPAs and then target a handful of goalies I could then trade to fill in the holes. Using the team I just drafted, for example, I would probably keep Lack and Grubauer as my goalies and trade Howard+ for a top-4 D, Niemi for a 2nd round pick and Pickard for a top 9 F. I may be off in my value estimates, but at least this shows what my plan is at any rate.

What would your Golden Knights look like?

Edit: Here's the link to the actual tool: https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft. I toggled on "Enforce exposure requirement rules" and then hit the "Quick Protect" button to create a close-to-realistic pool. It has some quirks, like Pitts leaving Murray exposed, but it's just because they haven't done anything with MAF yet. Obviously, I ignored obvious exposures like Murray when picking my team.

If Anaheim is still in a position to lose Silfverberg I will pretty happy, but I can't see that happening.

That's not a bad strategy.

I would definitely target young BPA's available. None of the veterans available will be impact players so I would generally try to avoid them as much as possible then overpay for some experience in free agency.

If I were Vegas I would take the minimum amount of goalies possible. 3.

And I wouldn't take any from teams that want to dump goalies like Detroit and Dallas. I would try and get three young up and coming goalies preferably waiver exempt.

Then before the season starts I'd offer Dallas a 5th or 6th rounder for one of their three goalies and get a veteran starter that way.

Defencemen are the least protect able for teams. I would draft as many good ones as I could. If you end up with 10 waiver eligible D, then trade 3 of them for forwards from teams wanting to recoup their loss on D.

I gonna wait until the lists come out before I try to pick a team. There is gonna be a bunch of circumvention type trades just before teams have to put out their final list out. I would imagine that the players Vegas gets in the expansion draft won't be nearly as good as the teams that are coming out in mock drafts.

This is how I would try to build the Knights

1. Don't take any bad contracts. You can reach the cap floor with good contracts too. No need to be helping out teams unless they are going to give ridiculous compensation.

2. Swing for the fences during the UFA window. You have three days to exclusively negotiate with any UFA in the league.

3. Build a team instead of just picking the BPA from each team. Try to get a nice mix of youth, leadership, winning experience, grit etc

4. Get the best goalie you can and build from there. Like the Panthers did with Vanbiesbrouck.

Wow, Vegas helps a lot of teams out in the OP scenario. I can't see them taking that many goalie's with big $$$ contracts.

That Vegas could wind up controlling the Goaltender market this summer is a fairly popular opinion. In fact, Treliving himself even addresses this in the interview AC posted:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=162268 (starting at the 5:59 mark).

Also, Niemi and Howard are not "big $$$ contracts" when you have 3-4 teams each looking for #1 or #1B goalies this offseason.

Not that I disagree with taking them but the trouble with young BPAs is that a lot are on short contracts, so you end up with a big renegotiation list in a short period of time.

Unfortunately, the protected lists will not be released to the public prior to the expansion draft. Even once the draft occurs I don't think there is any guarantee that teams will publicize their completed lists.

Yep we'll all get to see the lists at 8:00 on June 18th

Even if TSN or Sportsnet didn't release them, the way agents babble the info would be out there and pieced together within hours anyway.
