No thanks, I'll keep Backlund. Hockey goes beyond a stat sheet, there's a reason why Habs fans vehemently want him gone.

Good teams always know when to make changes at the right time. I don't know what the term is rebuilding/retooling on the fly?
Concern with Backlund is he probably wants a 5-5.5 x 5 or 6 year deal. He will be pushing close to 30 when his next contract starts.

Also Galchenyuk is 5 years younger, and IMO the offensive upside is way higher.

You lose the all around game that Backlund provides but I take the younger player with offensive upside.

As much as I love Backlund I would make that trade in a 1 for 1 deal.
 |
I think it is a rather fair trade as Backlund I believe has slightly more left offensively and is far better defensively. Galchenyuk did score 30 goals once in his career and I would hope has a much higher offensive ceiling.

1 for 1 it helps the Habs far more now than down the road which appears to be their direction with the Weber and Subban trade. Backlund also is a player they can keep for 5-6 years so while not as long term as Galchenyuk he is still a longer term piece.

For the Flames the continue to build a forward core that is young stocked full of potential. Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk, Lazar, Jankowski, Galchenyuk would be 7 forwards 24 or younger.

Ideally the Flames keep Backlund on a team friendly 5 year deal that gets signed this summer but if not it is concerning potentially losing him for nothing or overpaying to keep him. I also contend I entertain trading Backlund before consider moving Bennett as I think both players have a similar value on the open market.

The Flames were not a win away from the conference finals they were swept in the first round. This team is on the right track but still has a long ways to go. Therefore if we are discussing trading a valuable centre I would rather talk about trading the 28 year old with one year left of his deal rather than the 21 year old RFA about to get a bridge contract.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but would anyone consider Hemsky on a 1yr deal? He's a RW, been rinsed of Oiler stink for many years now.

Habs fans want just about everybody gone unless they win the Cup.

I think he's coming off of hip surgery. Missed most of last year. Getting up there in age. I'd take a pass on him now.

He's well past his best before date and going to be hard pressed to find work. He probably catches on with a team in the 3rd wave of free agency.

I'd love to see the Flames pick up a Hemsky/Hudler type for the 3rd line. This team needs scoring depth way more than anything else imo.
After the goalies of course but I have 100% confidence that the Flames will get decent tending next year.

Hemsky and his narrow glass shoulders can ply their trade elsewhere.

Not sure about Dwight King specifically, but we do need to get bigger and meaner to survive in this conference. King doesn't put up much offense, but he is huge and physical.

Flames have Hathaway. Cheaper and likely to produce as well as King given a full schedule. Also King is LW which the Flames don't need. Bouma, Ferland (natural side) mean they don't need another heavy player in the bottom 6.

King was one of the reasons for the Habs' playoff exit. Slow and not very good.

I would rather see guys from the farm get a real shot at making the team instead of watch more vets disappoint me for an entire season at a higher price tag.
