I just assumed everybody cheated with those. Some of you are actually going sockless for 10hrs a day in your nice work shoes? Don't the shoes just permanently smell like somebody's ass after a couple wears? Especially in the warm weather months.
Maybe I just have abnormally sweaty feet, but to me that seems like an easy way to quickly wreck a nice pair of kicks

That's because they are dressed for being at the park. And likely put some degree of care when they purchased those clothes. But what was mentioned was the Walmart shoppers with ripped sweatpants and mustard stained shirts.
Do a google image search for Walmart shopper.

It truly disgusts me how unkempt and disgusting our society has become. It didn't matter how rich or poor people were, up until the 1960's people always attempted to look good in public. Even poor paperboys had a nice vest, pants and a hat. People wouldn't be caught dead in public looking like trash. Today? Hit up the people of Walmart for a selection of the worlds finest fashion. What happened? Where did everything go wrong? What is wrong with demanding that people take a little pride in themselves?

Actually I appreciate what I wear and dress sharply for my career.
However, I don't look down at anyone for dressing however the hell they want because it has no bearing on my life.
I will judge those who deem themselves superiors because they spend money on their clothing. Because it is sad and pathetic.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I get annoyed with people who litter because it makes the environment less nice and it is against the law. I do not get annoyed with people who don't dress nice because 1) I don't care what people wear and 2) I don't get myself worked up over things I or society have zero control over. I have enough things to think about in my life that I don't see any point why something as trivial as how people dress should be allowed to take up any of my mental space. It's like those people who get annoyed seeing two people of the same sex kiss in public -- just look away if it bothers you. Why work yourself into a lather over something that has no effect on your life and you have absolutely no control over?

"Demanding" that people dress to your no doubt impressive standards is your own issue that will be probably a source of lifelong frustration, but maybe should just not go to WalMart.
I wasn't around in the 60's so I can't from personal experience recall how the paperboys dressed in those days, but I'm pretty sure that they weren't all snazzy with nice vests, pants, and hats.
Are you sure you aren't mixing up reality with silent movies, or "Li'l Rascals"?

Honestly, I'd rather just not wear pants.
But then I'd get arrested. Again.

You can tell a lot about a person by how much thought they put into their appearance...
It's not about how much you spend but being thoughtful in how you put yourself together.
If you walk into my office looking for a job and can't be bothered to wear clean, well fitting clothes and polished shoes, then you aren't likely someone I want in front of my clients.

It's really as simple as dressing for the occasion and the company you keep.
I take great care in leaving the home with the girl. She's doesn't leave the home without dazzling, and while I do not dazzle, the least I can do is match the effort.
If I'm renovating the basement and run out to grab drywall mud, I'll go dusty, dirty and generally unkempt. If she is coming with to pick out paint, I'll shower and change first.
I apply the same rational in any other work or social occasion, with or without her.

Sorry to dig up on old'ish thread but I was reminded of it this morning.. Bought a new pair of low top kicks yesterday and decided to be a trendy wendy & try that new style I'm seeing downtown a lot lately with the no socks at work today (no show socks to be exact). Never tried it before, all I did was my 5min walk from my car to the train and my heel on my right foot is already bleeding. How do you guys do this?? Haha I'm literally drawing blood trying to be stylish for a day

But but...I thought this generation's problem was that they were wasting too much money on luxuries.....spending thousands of dollars on well fitting slacks and tailor made suits is acceptable but $10 brunch is not?

Do you hire people with obvious tattoos like sleeves or hand/neck tattoos?

No. Want to judge me based on a one time appearance? Go for it, you have ZERO idea who I really am.
