There was actually a burger chain way back in the 70s that served lean ground burgers with whole wheat buns and lots of veggies. They went under pretty quickly.

Wasn't the right time IMO. I think Subway proved that.

Well, I wouldn't call most of what Subway offers 'healthy' by any stretch of the imagination. My favourite sub is about 1400 calories.

All depends what you get off course. Even the veggie sub soaked in sub sauce and mayo on white bread is a fattening meal. I get the club on brown with no cheese, no sauces except mustard and extra veggies and it is quite healthy.

Oh that for sure! Imagine if one day Subway annouced they had removed all the sauces, white bread and cheese from their menu? They would be run out of buisness they next day! lol
