Every time I hear Bennett's name mentioned in trade speculations I shudder. The same goes for Ferland. And why some are willing to dump Engelland, the only muscle we have, is also unrealistic. Sign Stone, give the Heat defense a chance and be realistic about getting Nino or a similar player. We aren't going to win the cup next year so be patient.

One thing for sure is my expectations next year are high. Make the playoffs and atleast put up a fight in the first round.

Solution: Don't draw the Ducks in the first round.

I can't wait for next season. It's going to be great to watch the Bennett haters eat crow, just as they did thanks to Monahan and Hamilton this year.

Suggesting trading Bennett for a more established player doesn't mean they hate Bennett, in fact it means they think he's worth something.

Don't dump the highest drafted Flame after his second year. It would be a huge mistake. The fact that he didn't score much last year allows a cheaper contract which helps the team. Give the kid some players on his line and he will improve.

Another interesting note on Minnesota's situation, courtesy of lancemeszaros from the C of Reddit:
Quote:
Teams need to submit their protected lists by 5pm ET on June 17, so Minnesota basically has until that afternoon to make a trade so that the receiving team can update their protected list. If they don't, then Minnesota or the other team risks losing him for nothing, or Minnesota is forced to protect him and risk losing another player they would otherwise want to protect.

That's probably fair but those aren't really that high. More than half the teams make playoffs. If the Flames are building a championship team you'd expect them to make a deep run at some point. Why not next year?

If the Flames expect to go deep or run for the division they need a legit goalie and a legit top line RW.

^ So then get Fleury and coax Oshie to come here by paying him over six million dollars, but only if Brouwer/Stajan is taken by Vegas. Boom.

I would say after goalie but before RW comes defense. Right now the team's 4th defenseman is Matt Bartkowski.
But my point is more about expectations vs predictions. I am not sure data backs me up but I suspect championship teams don't take a series of baby steps. At some point there's a breakthrough, but also maybe a step back along the way.

Same. Season can't come soon enough. Bennett trade proposals make me sick.

Wouldn't mind Oshie but he's gonna command a hefty price tag for his services. I just don't think his contract demands will be a fit for the Flames much like Bishops would have been a hindrance.

Bringing Oshie would be awesome - because it's exactly what we would need. But, I think the timing/cost will be extremely prohibitive. He's due for a massive payday with term, and he's one of the top forwards on the UFA market (probably Radulov being the other one). It screams Lucic, Eriksson type money (6x6?). That contract would end up hurting pretty significantly at the tail end. He also shot ~10% above his career average this year (23.1% vs 13.4%) so he might end up regressing. Lastly, he had a big playoff performance - and it always feels like people end up overpaying for that (thinking Beleskey, Brouwer...).
But Gaudreau - Monahan - Oshie though...

Oshie is going to be a tough contract for whatever team takes him on. Going from career 12% shooting percentage to 23% in a contract year just sets the table.
He'll go right back to 12% next year and score 15 goals, then in a few years you get to watch the decline into years 4-7.
Happy that I doubt Calgary is on his radar.

I'd like a RW on that line that can keep up with Johnny. I'm not sure Oshie is it.

More often than not, it shows that they have absolutely no patience or long-term vision.
