I'd say this is more likely the case. The guy was born into wealth and has never really had to experience what real work feels like until now. I think he honestly thought that being President was like being crowned King, and that he could just relax in Trump Tower while his subordinates ran around doing everything for him, similar to running his business empire.
Now that he's actually President, he's realizing how much work it actually is, and the stress is beyond anything he thought it would be. He just doesn't have the maturity, intelligence, experience, temperament, or attention span to do this job, and it's clearly driving him bonkers. He'll probably have a heart attack from the stress long before he ever gets impeached.
This, essentially.

He's 70...I'm not sure that is considered early. Something like 10-15% of people over 70 have some dementia and/or Alzheimers I think. And stress can make a bad situation worse.
Trump is incompetent and perhaps senile. Pence I think is simply an evil person. I want a president Pence even less than i do President Trump. Well about as as much as I guess. Both will/are awful for the country.
The scary thing is health-wise, Hillary was much worse. Not so sure it's dementia. It could be delusions of grandeur. Could the US not have found a younger Presidential hopeful?
She got a cold on the campaign trail once. Also, emails.
