Default 2017 Camping Thread

Figured with May Long coming up, would be good to see what everyone is up to.

I was able to snag a spot in Elkwood, so we are pretty excited for the first camping trip of the year

This is our second year with this trailer, and we still love it

For reference, here are the older Camping Threads with a lot of info

We're camping as well, but we're going out on some private land where we have access. Traditionally we do May long and Labour Day down in Waterton but the National Parks are already insane this year so we decided to avoid the madness. Banff is going to be a complete gong show this summer.

Isn't there a snowfall warning for Kananaskis today? Hopefully the weather clears up before the weekend.

I've never camped around Banff or Lake Louise. I looked at the website site once and it was cringe-worthy...could be a little more user friendly.

Any good campgrounds around there?

Going on 3 years with my 5th wheel parked in Moyie Springs Idaho. Between the swimming hole, 1 minute walk to 2 rivers, waterfalls, hikes and Silverwood within an hours drive it's really turned into something I hope my kids can remember when they are grown. Hoping to have my deck construction completed Friday then it's fishing and relaxing for the summer.

Apparently MEC has partnered with Parks Canada and now has pre set up camping sites for 6 people. The GF wants to take the kids to one of these. Should be an interesting experience.

Registration for Alberta started May 1st. Might have trouble getting in at this point..

Cool idea though.

Also you can rent trailers/campers kind of like airbnb now - https://wheelestate.ca/alberta-rv-tr...lers-for-rent/

I love camping so much. Don't have a vehicle so it only happens maybe once per year. Need to fix that.

We're headed up SE of Sundre in the Elkton Valley area. Going to have a pig roast Saturday evening, looking forward to that, and then just relaxing the rest of the weekend, in the peace and quiet.

Looking like it's going to be the first long weekend in quite some time where the weather is going to warm and nice.

Camped there once, in August. It was -amazing-

Pic related.

This year I'm going to Fozzy Fest. Much excited for that.

Went out and got our Motorhome pulled out of storage. Getting ready for the long weekend. We camp but the kids race Motocross so we are usually all over at tracks all summer. Older unit but we love it. Following this thread for all the great ideas everyone has.

If you go today you can hold a site on one of the first come- first served campgrounds. For example less than 45 minutes west you have Gooseberry and Paddy's Flat. You do have to pay for the extra nights to hold your spot.

When I used to do that for the long weekend I'd go out on the Wednesday, but you may still have some available today.

Just make sure she either parks a trailer or sets up a tent on the site. I've seen people just leave camp chairs. Some places allow that, some don't. You also run into the issue where somebody just takes the chairs, either to claim the spot on their own, or the chairs just get "borrowed" and somebody else comes to find what looks like an empty site.

Sandy McNabb and Blue Rock might have something. They're west of Turner Valley. Two Jack opens tomorrow morning on a FCFS basis.
