Nice to see. I still think he's worth the risk of bringing back as he is in my opinion much better than Elliott.

No he's not much better than Elliott. He's a good backup goaltender.

I agree.
I think his team's social media strategy during negotations (Gaudreauvertime) did nothing to help him this year. It left a poor taste for many before the season even began.

What does this statement even mean?
Johnson was expected to be a backup and yet he arguably saved our entire season while Elliot centered himself and made peace with gaia or whatever.
I have a lot more faith in Johnson because hes an NHL backup goalie. Solid when called upon, occasionally exceptional but rarely terrible.

It means that Johnson isn't "much better than Elliott". If a backup can't come in and wins some games he's not a very good backup so by definition Johnson is a good backup goaltender. I know people are down on Elliott because of the way the season ended but he's still a better goaltender than Johnson and I don't think that's even debatable when you look at their bodies of work.
Also Johnson was terrible for most of the 2nd half of the season.

I disagree.
Johnson is what he is and you can operate based on that. Elliot is an unknown from night to night but without doing the research I'd wager he cost more games than he stole last season so a steady-Eddy backup is worth more than a wildcard.

Come on man he was really good for the Blues and you are trying to define his career based on once season with the Flames. It doesn't work that way as he's only a year removed from backstopping the Blues to the Conference finals. No argument there about Johnson being nothing more than a backup goaltender but you could find plenty of veteran backup goaltenders on the market. That's not the Flames issue right now so I don't even know why his name is being thrown out there in any capacity. They need to find a goaltender to start then they can focus on who's backing him up. Johnson doesn't enter the equation for starting goaltender but Elliott will probably find a starting job whether it be for the Jets, Flames or whatever.

While true, most goalies are evaluated based on their most current season.

This has been on my mind for quite sometime. I remember during negotiation they asked Johnny his input he didn't say much but alluded to the fact that both negative and positive views were being discussed. I found the comment odd because it gave me the impression that it had gotten personal. Even Gio made references to how the whole process can be brutal and then to see Johnny start the season looking somber, angry, or frustrated. It didn't help that he had to learn a new system but whoever was doing his bidding (Gaudreauvertime) was brutal and stoked fires everywhere.
I really hope the World Championships can help Johnny get that feeling again. If he needs to be with Hayes to do it the Flames should seriously consider that option. Anything to get Johnny feeling good and playing his elite game.

Is it kind of accepted that the poster referenced was working for Gaudreau's camp? I assumed just a younger zealous fan.

In retrospect, the whole Gaudreauvertime experience was really bizarre. Why did they care what was going on on this forum? Perhaps trying to move the expectation goalposts with over-bidding, or even trying to make it appear like fan opinion truly considered those ridiculous contracts. But I can't imagine they think the media or managers respect the opinions on here and come regularly to report our opinions as a marker of fan sentiment.
It sure seems like Gaudreauvertime was an inside crony. It's one of those things where I think that I now understand what was going on better than I did before, but still am baffled.

No it wasn't widely accepted. I posted several times trying to attract help to figure out what exactly was going on. I was certainly suspicious that was the case though, and am more suspicious now.
Given how they disappeared immediately after the contract was signed does point towards something more than just a huge fan. Gaudreau didn't have a great year, but did enough and had enough highlights that you'd expect a fan who posted as incessantly as that would return at any sight of light (see all the E=NG threads).

Gaudreauvertime disappeared because he/she got Sin Binned and is still.
If you go to his/her profile though, he/she was on the site today.

The whole Gaudreauvertime situation was and is still bizarre and confusing. Since they are banned I don't want to reference them too much, but totally agree with your sentiment's

Yeah, there is no reason to think any differently about Gaudreauvertime. I am fairly sure he has about as much inside information as I do. The fact that he was so glaringly wrong about so many things would seem to remove all doubt.

I know my post might be somewhat confusing my apologies, my reference to "stoking fires" really had to do with the unexpected views + abrasive posting style on the forum at the time. Was hard for many not to feel a little defensive. Anyway really glad we are long past all of that! Agree with you and Textcritic likely just a young zealous fan. Great to see Johnny having a good WC.

I think he slipped up and revealed that there was more to it on one occasion.
I don't think he was working for the agent, but I suspect it was a family member or close friend who thought they were doing Johnny a favor. I think they grossly underestimated the effect in a market like Calgary.

Goalies have huge ups and downs though. Rinne, Bobrovski, Fleury for some recent examples. I don't mind the idea of Elliot but I'm not betting the farm on him taking us all the way on his own.
I can't stand Johnson as a fan. He's just positionally sound, but he isn't going to bail you out on a broken play with an acrobatic save. I prefer goalies who can do that. But you said it perfect with "he is what he is". He can play 30-40 games in the NHL and post decent numbers on a good team.

This is exactly why Johnson is an ideal backup though. He can play a decent number of games if injuries happen and will keep his team in almost every game.
