It was a strange one. I had spots where it was behind me and I ride north. Definitely not the bad head wind I was anticipating.

When I left work they were showing a south wind of 7 kmh.

I ride along the river valley, and it seems like most times the wind direction in the valley is completely different than when I pop out of it.

Dual headwind days seem incredibly common. Given my ride is ~8 minutes, I'll suck it up.

I headed south on the Nose Creek path this morning and didn't notice the south wind. However, as soon as I headed west along the river, I noticed a head wind. It always seems to be a west wind on that path.

I know I have mentioned it before, but that Nose Creek path is "heavy". I really don't enjoy riding it. There are too many cracks, bumps and ruts and I just felt exhausted by the time I got to the zoo this morning. I actually prefer riding the hills through the centre of the city and I'm a sprinter who can't climb hills.

Got this along the canal path on my ride home. New tube got me home but I probably shouldn't trust this tire for the long term. Correct?

The path is ####. I was hoping they'd repave a bunch of it last year with all the sewer work, etc, but they didn't. One of these days, I'll take a picture of every major crack and tweet it to 311.

Ktrain, tire would probably be ok for awhile if you put some tape or patch inside.

I think you can get a proper tire patch for that type of damage.

K-train - is that a picture of your tire or your tube?

For my commuter bike I try and run heavier/thicker tires, to avoid stuff like this.

I currently have Schawlow marathons on my commuter and have no issues for a season and a half. I swapped them out after getting a flat per week for a month or so. I also have a back up set of bell tires impurchased one day from Walmart. Will be interesting to see how these tires last if and when I use them.

As an aside, bike tires can be stupidly expensive these days.

Schwalbe Marathons here, too. 4000 km on them, rode them all winter. No flats.

On my ride in today my rear tire was looking a little flat. I took it to the service shop at the office and my rear tire was at 25 PSI. Should be at 75-100 PSI. This should speed up my commute a tad.

That was the tire. To be fair, they probably had 5500 to 6000km on them...

I ended up getting some Grand Prix 4000 IIs 25mm. More expensive but great reviews and rated for longer life if I plan on being negligent about changing them.

Felt like a really nice tailwind heading in this morning coming south down the Nose Creek Pathway.

I use Gatorskins for tires, 25mm. Only had two punctures in the last two years, one pinch flat (my own fault - hadn't pumped tires up in awhile) and one glass shard.

nothing like an underinflated tire or a dry chain to slow down a ride.

So on my ride to work this morning I saw barriers up right where I join the Nose Creek path coming down the switchback from Renfrew, confused and stuck I went through anyway and saw a guy putting up more barriers near the rail crossing at Fox Hollow. He said they're closing that section of the path for a few days to do maintenance.

Has anyone further north or south along there see anything about a pathway closure?

I had that happen to me last summer - was pulling my kid home in the chariot, sucking wind (plus it was a blustery, rainy day) and decide to pop into the Bike Shop to get a top up of air since the tire looked low. Was sitting around 25 PSI as well. The last three blocks home after that were almost joyful.

Saw some paint on the ground, something about CP but nothing about a closure.

I saw that paint on the ground too this morning, if they go and close without notice I'll be ticked off and all over the city about in online.

I'll be mad online.

Edit: If is is CPR I wouldn't be surprised to see them just go and do it, that's about the attitude I expect from them as a corporate citizen in this city.

Double edit: Nothing on the city pathway closure page here http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Pag...-closures.aspx
