Which actually might be good for everyone.

Helps Vegas hit the floor but adds a solid and experienced player.

Plus hes Russian! And everyone knows that Russians love to gamble! They've got their own version of Roulette and everything!

It will be interesting to see who will be the first Vegas based athlete to make news for a gambling issue. Once the Raiders join the picture you have to think that it's a matter of time until someone makes the news for the wrong reasons.

Chances it will be an NFL player.

Having said that, one can argue that it has already happened with PacMan Jones during the 2007 NBA all-star game, held in Las Vegas.

I can't even picture a professional sports team full of millionaires playing and residing in Las Vegas without a bare minimum of three players falling into trouble.

And I don't mean like one bad night on the town trouble. I mean like sitting at tables depleting bank accounts, drinks in hand til the wee hours on a regular basis, trouble.

I think established players with families may be okay but young players are definitely going to be presented with temptations they wouldn't normally see in most cities.

People will wait for the stars/decent players who've made millions to be the ones in trouble, but I actually fear most for these types
 - Young players, decent money but no guarantee on their career

 - Older role players, never made huge money, spent lots already

You get those guys with like $700k - $2mil to their name while getting sucked into the big league gambling scene with fellow players and look out.

Jagr too. LV might be quite an exciting team with all the Russians + Jagr. With all the gambling and drinking, there is definitely a movie to be made there. It would also be perfect if Mike Keenan were the coach.

Get Ray Emery to play in net and you've got the makings of something special.

			RNH + Ebs for Kovalchuk.
NJ gets to 2019 Stanley Cup, but loses to the Flames.

NJ wins 2020 cup over Dallas. Edmonton misses playoffs.

 Kovalchuk retires.

Trade for Evander Kane as well. Could be the NHL's version of Major League.

I would love to play in Vegas if I was a young millionaire but I'd most assuredly perish from AIDS or drug overdose from all the irresponsible nights spent with strippers and escorts.

These are just guesses by McKenzie from his latest podcast:Thinks NJ will only get a pick in return for Kovalchuk in a sign and trade. Probably won't be a 1st, likely a 2nd or 3rd.
Kovalchuk will be asking for $6-$7 million per year. Points out that the deal he retired from would have paid Kovalchuk $21 million over the next 3 years.
Kovalchuk doesn't want to go to a rebuilding team

That's going to be tough for teams to fit under the cap. I think the Flames could make it work. Worst case they can buy out Stajan and/or Bouma

he doesn't want to go to a rebuilding team, it is said.

Calgary isn't a cup contender. why would he want to go to the flames?

Because they're a piece like him and a solid goalie away from taking a step forward.

The core is maturing every year, and pairing Kovalchuk with Johnny and Monahan on the top line would be deadly. For a player looking for a spot to land, that's an attractive line. Kovalchuk's been predominantly a LW but did play RW in Jersey with Zach Parise and Travis Zajac.

Not saying he'll want to come to Canada per se, but these self-depreciating comments from some fans here about the state of this team get tiresome. We're an emerging team with a ton of young talent getting better every year.
