Well the team must be wearing down as we got absolutely clobbered today. Good effort from Brent Johnson resisting the wolves and giving Legace a day off. Hopefully they play better tommorrow.

Not much of a rematch.

The Devils came to play tonight and destroyed the new look Jets. Brett McLean was a -4 in just 15 minutes of ice time, he may find himself in the press box tomorrow as the Jets play their 3rd game in 3 nights. Pascal Leclaire will make his first start for the Jets tomorrow night.

Sabres 6 Coyotes 5

Crazy game, Sabres badly outshot the 'yotes yet barely hold on. Sandford getting his 2nd straight start, but that was nearly one too many. At least JS Giguere is now rested and ready to return.

The Sabres newly formed 'first line' of Fedotenko, Modano and Letowski had good chemistry. Interestingly four Sabres and a couple of "Yotes were +4 on the night. The Sabres PP continues to be dreadful, going 0 fer 11, hard to figure as the Sabres have some decent offensive defenceman and a few forwards who can score.

ISLES TRIP UP FLYERS

PHILADELPHIA - Islanders defenceman Tom Preissing gathers the loose puck as Philadelphia forward Jason Ward watches.

Islanders' goaltender Cam Ward got a much deserved rest (98 CD) after starting 13 consecutive games as backup goaltender Steve Shields was given the start Monday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Shields took advantage of the opportunity kicking aside 25 of the 29 shots he faced for his first victory of the season.

Monday night's victory snapped a four-game losing skid for the Islanders who lost Sunday afternoon against the very same Philadelphia Flyers.

Assistant captain David Vyborny turned in a solid effort scoring twice and adding an assist, while young forward Jiri Hudler was named the game's first star for his two goal, two assist performance.

Youngster Marek Svatos continues to impress scoring once and adding an assist in the affair, while Robert Nilsson did the same finishing with two points.

The Islanders flew home immediately following the game to prepare for tomorrow's match up against the Washington Capitals.

The Hawks lost, but the game was interesting.

G. STEVENSON SHA (CROSS-CHECKING, Minor, Game Misconduct) 12:37 (Served by Cale Hulse), S. WEBER HAW (ELBOWING, Minor, Game Misconduct) 12:37 (Served by Jussi Jokinen)

Martin Prusek enters game at 12:37 of 3rd period
Mathieu Garon injured at 12:37 of the 3rd Period
Jussi Jokinen injured at 12:37 of the 3rd Period
Grant Stevenson ejected at 12:37 of the 3rd Period
Shea Weber ejected at 12:37 of the 3rd Period

Stevenson whacked Weber from behind, and Weber fell into the net catching Mathieu Garon in the head with his elbow on the way down to the ice. Garon flipped backward, catching his skate under underneath him, and what with all that weight of the goalie pads forcing him back, he shredding his groin. OK Hamstring. whatever

Injuries-
SHARKS

Mathieu Garon sidelined day-to-day (pulled hamstring)

Weber, ejected from the game, must have Jussi Jokinen sit in the box for him crime of the elblow to the head. As Jokinen skated toward the box, he turns to look at coach Laviollette and trips on the door to the bin. He smacked his lip on the bench and bled for the rest of the game. He will be fine and shall not need more than an ice bag or three to recover his boyish good looks.

Fans had a great time.

Christian Backman and Corey Perry had hu-hu-huge games for the Devils ... an impressive win off of an upsetting loss!

Stumpel got his 9th goal of the season today as well ... should have put his name in for some sponsorships at the beginning of the season ...

The Canadiens Cool the red Hot Penguins.

The Canadiens were the first victims in the 4 game winning streak which saw the Penguins soar up from the bottom of the league to roost with the league leaders. The Pens embarassed the Canadiens 6-1 in Montreal. The Canadiens fell the opposite way, falling to the Flyers and the Avalanche in their next two games.

Time for the Home and Home. In the opening end, the Canadiens went into Pitsburgh and chased Ratcoff from the nets late in the 3rd period for a 5-4 victory. Tonight, in Montreal the Canadiens picked up where they left off, this time chasing Raycoff midway in the second. The Canadiens allowed the first goal but then rebounded with 5 straight goals on 19 shots. The Canadiens would deny the late game rally by adding the 6th goal in the final minute.
The Home and Home series saw Kieth Tkachuk score 4 goals and add 2 assists.

Pens drop 1 sided game to Habs. Raycoft gets lit up, while AHL 3rd stringer Jon Quick comes in and does a great job stoping 18 of 19 shots he faced. The Pens have a day of rest before they will face off with the Devils on Wednesday.

Finding some balance...

Record (7-4-2-0)
Game story -
A balanced game allowed the Vancouver Canucks to barely squeak by the powerhouse Atlanta Thrashers in a late game this Monday evening. The Canucks brought their E game. Effort. The special teams played well, finally scoring a couple of goals on the powerplay while the penalty kill was sold. Veteran Glen Wesley continued to play well and even saw time on the top d pairing with Zubov.

Martin Biron will rest tomorrow night.

In other news, it must have been past the bed time of many, as only 18 were in attendance for tonight's tilt.

Powerplay: 2 / 4
Penalty kill: 2 / 2
Winner of the Marshmallow (Unsung Hero) Award: Petr Prucha

Up next: Anaheim Mighty Ducks

Senators turn the tables on the Bruins.
3-2 was the score.. Sean Donovan subject to trade talks as of late had a big game. scoring 2 times his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season. Jason Labarbera also got the start tonight in goal giving Kari a rest. He stood tall stopping 27 of 29 shots he faced.

The Senators now prepair to face the Flyers.

Leafs bounce back, beat Jackets 3-0.

Good game for the Leafs. Outshot the BJ's 39-19. Only scored 3 times but that was enough. Marty Turco played a solid game. He's had some bad ones this year but luckily he always plays well after a bad effort.

However, Leafs PP continues to sputter. 0-7 in this game. Maybe pulling the trigger on the Kaberle deal wasn't the best move after all.

(OK, pretend that ugly circle on his chest is a Nordique logo...)

Morrison Gets Nod In Send Off Loss
When Noodle's flight got delayed Monday afternoon, the Nordique's GM Prottotype was left with no choice but to start outgoing backup Mike Morrison, in relieve of superhuman Roberto Luongo.

"Roberto has kept us in a lot of games," claimed Prottotype, "but it was time for him to ride the pine and re-energize. Mike didn't do too shabby, but seemed to pull a Randy Moss at the end of the game, letting in two crucial goals erasing the lead we aquired in the first period."

"At least we can come out of this game with a moral victory. Washington has been awesome this year, especially at home. We won 2/3s of this game. But the stats will never show that. It will only show a L for the 1/3 we didn't come out to play."

It's no secret in Quebec that Mike Morrison's days on the big club are numbered. While no offers are expected for the overhyped youngster, a move will be made in the next few days to rid themselves of the pylon.
