I was just going to say, as long as you have 3 out of 5 you should be OK for short distances (enough to get somewhere and purchase two more lug nuts).

Are you sure you tightened the nuts on all four wheels? I did that once, while rotating my tires. A neighbour dropped by while I was switching, chatted for a bit, and when he left, I went for a spin. Went around the corner, and the truck started shaking like crazy. I really wanted to blame the truck or my neighbour, but the only reasonable explanation was that I forgot to tighten the lug nuts on the one wheel. Luckily no damage to the truck, but I felt pretty stupid afterward. Now I double check all four, after I decide I'm finished.

I am sure, but I can definitely see how that could happen. I am a fairly chatty guy.

Also I assume most know the proper pattern for torqueing bolts which is not clockwise? Depending on the amount of lugs you can google the bolt patterns if not familiar.

At the very end always go back and recheck every lug nut. Easy to get distracted and miss tightening a wheel/couple lugs.
Takes less than 1 minute.

Never heard of the re-tighten method after 100km. I swap the winters on and off myself, so I'll get into the habit of checking them from now on.
The more you know...

I used top have a sign hanging in my garage in front of the driver side windshield:
"Tighten lug-nuts or die."

Still alive, but I've checked my lug nuts 3 times since yesterday.

I had a focus with 1 lug out of 4 broken and neglected to get it fixed, and never had an issue for over a year. I wouldn't recommend it, but 1 out of 5 for a short time if you are mindful is not terminal.

While probably true, the concern was he mentioned the others had been damaged. Impossible to tell how badly from here, but that would be an extenuating circumstance to what you had.

My face is a bum!
|
I re-tighten before every highway trip.
Also any city trip.
And at most red lights.
