2016/2017 Trade Speculation and Rumors

What kind of deals would be out there for him? Does something like Simmonds/Gudas from Philly make sense? Or Vorachek?
Tkachuk Monahan Vorachek looks pretty good...
|
No. None of that makes sense.
The flames made a ton of progress last year and are trying to build a contending team through strong drafting and development. You can tinker with the supporting cast all day, but there is absolutely no reason to trade a core piece and our best offensive player one year into his new long term contract.
Not to mention Voracek comes with an 8.25 million dollar cap hit until 2024 and has shown to be quite inconsistent year over year. Gaudreau had the same amount of points as him last year in 10 less games. And there's the age difference.

The playoff run the Oilers are on combined with all the love fest on every sports channel, if we end up trading Johnny Gaudreau for a deal centered around Voracek I might just stop watching hockey all together.

Weird there are these whispers of trading Johnny from people on these boards. Are they just trolling, impatient, or what?

I think a big part is that people are impatient. It just mind boggling that people are even entertaining the thought of trading a 23 year old about to enter his prime for a player coming out of his prime years for more money. It seems that people are just looking at next season rather than the long term, because these trades don't make any sense. For the record I don't think there is any merit to any of these speculations. I wouldn't even consider them a rumor as there is no way the Flames would entertain any of these scenarios.

To be fair, he DID give the puck away at the World Championships, the bum.

The only way Flames should be open to a Johnny trade if it's a clear overpay.
IE. Provorov + Konecny from Philly or a signed Tavares from the Isles.
But for Voracek + Gudas....hahahahaha NO

Taking a while to get to 5000

While we're speculating, any deal for Gaudreau starts with Philly's #2 overall and then goes up from there.

Not impatient. He's a great talent, I just think he's better suited for the East. He's our best asset, and if there is an opportunity to grab a physical winger who can finish... I would take it.

REALISTIC overpay IMO.
Sure we could say add the #2 overall but then you're in complete dream world.
Provorov has a good chance of being a top pairing guy and could potentially even be a franchise dman. Flames would have the best top 4 D in the league with him.
Konecny is a top 6 right shot right wing with fantastic compete level and intangibles. Potential 1st line upside.
And both guys are younger than Johnny with 2 more years on their ELC's.
If that was on the table I'd pack Johnny's bags and drop him to the airport myself.

Neither guy is a sure thing (Provorov is close) making your deal not an overpay. Johnny has 203pts in 232 games before he is 24 signed for 5 years under $7M. He is proven and the real deal.
I am looking at the #2 pick, a D prospect like Sanheim, and a guy like Schenn and that is an overpay I gladly take

The only Gaudreau deal I'm OK with is Gaudreau for MacKinnon straight up, which feels like an EA NHL trade. But I feel the players are roughly equal 1 to 1. Gaudreau scores more but MacKinnon is more complete and a bit younger.
Voracek isn't half the player Johnny is and he is overpaid - wouldn't even consider a trade built around him.

talk about trading Gaudreau when his value is at his absolute lowest.

Fair enough, but adding Kovalchuk at his age and price to this lineup doesn't make a lot of sense IMHO. We are not on the verge of winning the cup with a few tweaks.

Johnny for Mackinnon would be good just so we could have another first round forward from 2013 on our roster.

I'm not against trading anybody as long as it makes sense and makes the team better overall. It's hard to see any realistic scenarios where trading Johnny actually makes the Flames better.
Maybe if you can leverage his star power, particularly in the north eastern US, into a massive over payment.
I will say, if the Flames were/are tinkering with the idea of trading him, at the very least I have complete confidence in the guys who would be handling it to get value back, and then some.

Also, absolutely no to trading Johnny for anyone over the age of 25 unless it's Tavares with an extension.

Even then it depends what Tavares wants. If he wants the Koptiar contract I rather keep Johnny

Only way you trade Johnny is for a massive overpayment.
For example from the Flyers I would want:
2nd Overall (1st Rounder in 2017)
Schenn/Simmonds
Travis Konecny
Schenn/Simmonds - Monahan - Patrick/Hischier
Tkachuk - Bennett - Konecny
Ferland - Backlund - Frolik
Hathaway - Jankowski - Lazar
That is probably a better lineup than we have right now. Not as offensively potent as the lineup with Gaudreau, but that team would really suck to play against.
