Yes, there should be an ongoing growler bar thread. Also, will your staff huff and puff about my stainless steel growlers?

I'm proud to announce that my partners and myself have just opened The Beer Vault, Calgary's first beer-focused retail destination, a store that just does beer like Calgary hasn't seen before.
Our goal is to have the best cold selection of beer in Calgary with enormous diversity but also a focus on local breweries. We want to support Alberta-made beer with a huge selection of local product from our neighboring craft breweries.

I drove by on Sunday, I'll definitely check you out.

A big issue is that much of the crowd that restaurants are losing now are those like me, 40s with kids. I certainly spent my hours at the Ship, and the assorted hip restaurants when I was younger, but once I had kids, the choices for where to eat became much more limited. Honestly Boston Pizza or Phil's are legit places to go with two children. If the place doesn't have a reasonable cheap menu for kids, I can't even bother.
Only 7 more years until my kids can manage themselves, so see you in 2024!

I'm also starting to notice that it would be harder and harder to manage without a service such as Skip the Dishes or OpenTable. In the last week I've heard 2 friends (that aren't what I'd call tech savvy) say that when they want food they just go to skip the dishes and sort by rating and free delivery.
It's astounding how many restaurants still open up without so much as a website. I get that you need to keep costs low, but starting below the expected minimum in a cut-throat industry seems like the path only a madman would take.
I should clarify this isn't a comment on the pizza place... I have zero idea of what their situation was beyond what's been said here. Sounds like good people though. Too bad.

Just say no to crappy chains.
I find you can usually order a suitable meal of the adult menu to split between your kids and most places are reasonable about doing. And as a group of people who live in the suburbs we all need to quit going to BP's so that there is some incentive to open up real restaurants.
You have a choice. Eating out 30% less and not going to BP's is worth it!!

Permission? I'm pretty sure long term members like you can post away about something like this, that's what makes this community so great. It's awesome seeing people try new things and throw themselves out there.
Congrats and good luck!
