We need a little more of "This post is terrible."
The trade proposals are insane. Murray is terrific, but he has also been hurt a fair bit in his young career. Bishop is not the ONLY option. There are tons of options, especially this year where Vegas may have a surplus of decent goaltending after the draft. The Flames could go Bishop, Miller, MAF or go the Talbot route with Darling or Korpisalo or whomever. Gillies may very well play in the AHL next year.

My only worry about Bishop is if his past injury is bothering him at all. If not, then I have zero worries.
It is really like getting two players when you acquire Bishop. He works very well as a 3rd defencemen and can really disrupt a team's forecheck and their ability to dump the puck in. Given the Flames' defencemen who are more of the puck-moving variety (especially if Engelland moves on), I think this will greatly help make them a faster transition team and allows them not to work as often on the boards.
That.. and you know.. he is pretty decent at making saves.

I've already told you people what it's going to cost to acquire Murray. It's not Backlund + Gillies. Good luck with that.
The chance to get murray at a reasonable price was at last years entry draft. Last year it was rumored we were offered Murray and Derek Pouliot in exchange for the #6 pick.
Right now with Murray's current seasonal stats.
2017 1st Round Pick.
2018 2nd Round Pick.
Jankowski or Bennett
Andersson or Kylington
Gillies or Parsons
You are going to give up three solid young players and two decent draft picks. This is the value Pittsburgh is going to need to make it worth their while.
Think of it. If Gillies lights the league on fire in the next 2 years what would we be demanding in exchange for a 25 year old #1 goalie.
It's not going to be a 1st round pick, a player and prospect. Goalies at 30+ hold a decreasing trade value however when you have a Top 6 goalie that is 22 years old the value is certainly insanely high.
You are going to get a minimum of 12 good seasons of #1 goalie.
Hence why I said the ONLY option is Ben Bishop to play alongside Jon Gillies.
Johnson isn't coming back as a backup. If he were the contract would have been 2 years last year, Not 1. There was a reason they signed one year deals. They wanted flexibility going into this offseason.

Does anyone else hope Treliving acquires Murray merely just to show guaar his acquisition cost is absolutely asinine?

Thank god!
One of the minions finally admits to the problem but at the same time doesn't even realize the problem.
Tons of options...............
"decent goaltending"
GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD.
We don't want nor need a decent goalie. Elliot is a decent goalie. We need an elite top end goalie that has what it takes to carry a team to the Stanley Cup.
That is the reason we play games. To win the Stanley Cup.
If your goal is the Stanley Cup. Korpisalo, Miller, Darling, ARE NOT your answer.
Lets give assets up for a "decent goaltending" option when we can instead have Bishop for free.
BISHOP IS THE ONLY OPTION.
I want you to write that down on paper 10,000 times. Maybe then it'll stick.

Treliving was after Murray at the 2016 entry draft. Could have had him if he gave up #6. Same price NJ paid for Schneider. Wasn't a horrible option.
It wasn't the Stanley Cup that inflated his value.
Murray proved his Stanley Cup run wasn't a fluke. That is what jacked his value up.

Dont want anything to do with Bishop on a long term deal..which he will rightfully want, so therefor dont want anything to do with the guy.

Good lord, that is insufferable.
Apparently you don't know what "only" means. Bishop is a decent goalie. Maybe a great goalie, that is up for debate. How many cups has he won? How many times has he been hurt in the playoffs? He is the only option this team has? Ridiculous.
The Flames need to acquire a goaltender that gives them a chance. There are no guarantees that any goalie (Price, Murray or otherwise) will lead the Flames to a cup. You obviously think it is Bishop. Maybe, maybe not. However, you must also consider the acquisition cost, in both assets to acquire (none for Bishop, good) and salary cap implications. In spite of your proclamations, you don't know what Bishop will sign for. You don't know for sure he would choose Calgary, given two offers of the same quality. You don't know what you are talking about, because you are talking in absolutes about future events.

Quit "telling" people anything....cause you dont have a goddamn clue what any GM of any team is thinking or desiring or anything else...unless you are a GM yourself and have had those discussions.

This is kind of what was going through my head as well. Thought maybe he could show up as our Matt Murray. I'm sure it would've been a very awkward decision to make though. Doubt he could've pulled off a strings of wins but he would have the taste and that experience playing in a key game in the playoffs.

Anyone who thinks this needs a reality check. Gilles is going to be given every opportunity to be the #2 goalie next year in Calgary. You don't get NHL experience by playing in the AHL. He's also not a 19 or 20 year old kid. He's 23 and needs to be playing in the NHL if you want him to be an NHL
|
No, actually typical goalie development would see Gillies starting in the AHL until he dominates that level. Most goalies spend years in the minors or in Europe before making the NHL. Typically you want your goalies playing at the highest level they can while still getting a starter's workload.
I don't see how he would develop better in the NHL as a backup vs starting in the AHL. You have some bizarre ideas about goalie development and I'd be surprised if Flames management agrees with you

I actually agree with 90% of what you're saying, but not with how you're saying it. Bishop is my preferred target as well, I don't want to keep throwing mud against the wall hoping it sticks, no more unproven guys, no more tandems, etc. BUT, there's definitely other options out there, and if there's one thing I'm confident in, it's that Treliving will leave no stone unturned and it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up going completely off the board here. And I'm not completely against that either, landing the next big thing would be awesome, I'm just scared it doesn't work out. That's why I want Bishop so much, because you know exactly what you're getting.
fwiw I'm close friends with a few NHLers as well, if that makes my opinion count more
