Given that they're now going back to Katzworld up 2-0, and if they get through, get the Blues or Preds, I worry it'll go a lot longer than that. Thank Jebus for the Pens.

I can't think of anything within reasonable driving distance from Edmonton that'd be worthwhile for a pro hockey team from California to go to "hang out" in early May. What is there??

Ummm.........Jasper.

Talbot is the difference here in a big way. Flames fans wanting Elliott back should take note.

They won't get past Nashville. I'd be worried about a conference final if the Blues win that series though. Regardless, the Pens and Caps are both way better, so there won't be any cups going north anytime soon.

I went grocery shopping at Safeways last night and the guy stocking the fruit was wearing a bright orange McDavid jersey.
It was gross.
Look this whole year has been a massive pack of luck for the Oilers, they get a schedule with a quarter of the games coming on back to back for other teams. During the regular season the underlying numbers show that McDavid's line carried this team. Talbot gives ungodly levels of goaltending and plays more games then logic allows. They had few if any injuries.
Everything has gone right for the Oilers, its also like in the playoffs they siphoned off every bit of luck from the Flames for example.
This is the height of things for the Oilers. The ultimate Cinderella season for them. People talked about the Flames being unsustainable a couple of years ago and look at what happened. Their luck shifted last year and it was a disaster.
The Oilers are unsustainable.

I continue to find it really interesting the impact a talent like McDavid makes to a team, particularly on an entry level contract. He basically becomes a 1 man first line, with a cascade effect down the rest of the roster.
Just for interests sake, if the Flames drafted a guy like that, their forward lines might look like:
Versteeg - McCrozky - Brouwer
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Lazar
And you get the added bonus of more easily signing players to come join your squad, so a guy like Brouwer becomes a guy like Lucic pretty easily so long as you have the cap space, or you upgrade that 4th line significantly by adding a single impact UFA or dropping one or both of the first line wingers down to the 4th line. It really is a massive shortcut to building a deep and talented team.
I think the Oilers roll through Anaheim and hopefully face the preds. That would be a tough series for them. But I'm increasingly of he view it's an Oilers - Pens final. Hopefully Sid will save us.

I hate to say it but Talbot will win this series for them. If the Ducks don't do a better job of getting under Talbot's skin and jamming up the crease as much as they can this series is over.
The oilers are lucky to have him turn into this calibre of goalie, without this amazing performance this year, this team doesn't make the playoffs. Can that be said for most teams? Yes, obviously.
I want the Ducks to battle back and beat them this round in an emotional, heartbreaking way, why wait for the Preds or Pens to do it when the Ducks still have a chance?
End it this round you sleazy Ducks!

Luck started with the draft lottery to be honest.
I didn't have big a problem with the Oilers since the late 80's - Hell, I was sort of happy for them to get to the Cup in 2006 (didn't want them to win mind you)...
I started really to despise them continued abuse of the NHL welfare system... "Hand Up or Hand Out" is an often used saying with respect to social programs... in the Oilers case, its flat out sickening...Talk about abusing the system...and the NHL BOT deserves just as much scorn imo
In their current roster, they have 3 guys (4 if you included Pujo) drafted higher than Calgary's highest pick... in their entire history! The Flames, Calgary and Atlanta, have never had a #1 pick. Edmonton had 4 in 6 years.
I'll never root for that team or watch any of their games... I hope nothing but ill will for that franchise going forward

It doesn't matter much FA wise, they won't be able to sign any kind of impactful free agents for a while. Adding basically 20 million to your payroll (McDavid 12 million, Draisaitl probably 7 million plus other signings) will force them to drop a large chunk of salary. Its not as easy as trading Eberle or RNH as teams don't take 6 million dollar contracts without sending major dollars back.
So the Oilers are going to have to hope that they have a steady stream of good players coming from their prospects base.
While JP improved over the span of the year, IIRC he was benched late in the season and there's no guarantee that he's going to be NHL ready for next year.
I would expect that the Oilers over the next 3 years are going to be basically Alvin, a couple of chipmonks and a whole lot of hope.

Oilers need to win game 3, let fans go nuts chanting for a sweep... Just to see their beloved oilers fall in OT in 4 straight games after. Mwhahhahahaha
Cherry on top = game 7 is a triple OT loss for the oil, own goal via deflection on McJesus' stick.

I dont understand last nights game. The guy in the net for the Oilers made a lot of saves, and no player kicked a puck into their own net.
Have they changed the rules of hockey between round 1 and 2

Jasper is over 350 km from Edmonton, and requires nearly four hours to drive. I realize that is close enough to drive to within a day, but "within driving distance" usually refers to a range that does not require half a day to cover. Hell, Calgary is closer to Edmonton than Jasper. The Ducks would be better off spending their off days there.

Was out for supper last night and saw several Oilers jerseys over the course of the evening. Rare to see them worn, even in Saskatoon. Of course they were all brand new 97's.
They're starting to creep out from under the rocks.
