That doesn't make sense. If he goes to market or not if Elliott signs his next contract with the Flames he is technically re-signing regardless if he got offers elsewhere or not.

One of Stone or Elliott it was mentioned that it was re-signed by June 30th, I thought it was Stone though. The offers though would likely drive the price up, so that could be the difference.

Yes this is true but the thing is, Flames were in on both Talbot and Jones, so they know, what they are looking for.

According to Prosportstransactions the 3rd for Elliott transfers if we re-sign him, and it doesn't matter when.
Pretty much the same with Stone, unless he were to wait until after the season started to sign with us, which obviously would never happen.

Mods can PM me for source not to say any of this upcoming information is earth shattering.
But Brian Elliott wants to return to The Flames next season and was happy "overall" with his performance here, recognizes he had a very tough outing in The Playoffs.
He's currently in talks with The Flames about contract extensions.
Again that is all from his vantage point, and it does not mean anything will materialize but thought I'd post since it gives us at least his view on things as they stand right now.

Hopefully the Flames move on from Elliott, there is going to be lot's available because of the expansion draft, hopefully the Flames are on in it.

I'd take a cheap Elliott back as a #2 goalie. Don't think you can go forwards with him as your #1 though.
Fleury / Elliott tandem.

I bet Elliott ends up in either Dallas or Winnipeg.
Winnipeg would probably like to create a situation like St. Louis had, with Hellebyuck playing the part of Jake Allen.

Hitch really didn't seem to like him much in St. Louis. Dallas might be a long shot now.

I should also add, emotionally Elliott very much wants to stay because he sees a home in Calgary both from a team culture and personal life perspective.

We have to move on from Elliott. He showed that he cannot be a top 10 goaltender in this league under a starter's workload, and he's too expensive to be a backup (3rd Rd Pick + $2.5M-AAV).
We'll never have playoff success until we find a top 10 starter.

Well he shouldn't have blown the start of the season and the playoffs then

Thanks for sharing. I hope the Flames walk away though unless Elliott doesn't not want a raise of any kind and is okay being a backup. It is a risky move for Treliving to bring a guy back that many fans feel cost them 1-2 wins in the playoffs and signing this player results in a draft pick being sent to the Blues as well

Honestly the only way I can see Elliot back is if it's on a short term deal with just a tiny raise, and Tre has a deal lined up for a younger goalie like Grubauer who also wouldn't command a bunch of term and dollars yet.
The two of them combined would probably cost $5-7 million against the cap, and then you have some insurance against Grubauer faltering and can ease him into the starter role for a season or two.

I'd prefer Elliott back to bringing in any of Fleury, Bishop, Smith... etc and with a first year starter I'd want someone like Elliott for insurance.

Sign Elliot to a reasonable two year deal and Darling to a 3 year deal. If Gillies or Parsons prove they are ready before Elliot's contract is done it shouldn't be hard to move him.

I like Elliott the guy. And he can be really good. But man, he's made it difficult to get behind a re-signing.
If "3/4 mark of the season Elliott" played against the Ducks, the Flames win that series in 5 or 6. They got first two weeks Elliott.

Remember bringing Elliott back in any capacity will cost the Flames their 3rd round draft pick. Given they already traded their 2nd round pick to the Senators I find it hard to believe they will use that draft pick to bring back a guy who's play was as spotty as Elliott's was. When Gulutzan had to yank him in the beginning of game four, I think that's when it was officially over for Elliott with the Flames.
