It's in Accessories then System Tools on my computer.
This may be a dumb question but if I do a system restore, it doesn't affect any word docs or email messages that I have added since the date I restore to, does it?

My computer is acting really slow. I did a defrag. Hasn't changed much. What more can I do to clean up my computer?

No, it shouldn't affect any of that stuff, only system files. link

System Restore does not affect your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e-mail) so you won't lose changes made to these files.

I've used Tuneup Utilities. It seems to help. There is a free 30 day trial.

1. do a scan disk and clean out all your files.
2. scan for spyware/malware.
3. get a real defrag program(Not he built in windows one) ie. Power Defragmenter and run another defrag.

I asked in this thread quite a while ago about some problems and never got around to fixing it or looking back into it, but I'm pretty sure I determined the problem and it's a simple one. Memory is too old and needs to be replaced. I'm probably going to get two sticks of 512.

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what the best kind is to buy? A friend of mine told me Kingston and gave me this link
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...cture=Kingston

I didn't really want to purchase online though, unless I can't find at least an equal deal here in town. I looked at Memory Express' website but wasn't sure which of theirs was the closest match for product and price.

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

This is the identical part at Memory Express. link

$6 more, but no shipping (if you are picking it up)

Oy! I'm expecting the worst here...

I ran my HP recovery disks today to restore my computer's defaults because of some problems I was having. The intro to the recovery said that this process would allow me to keep my files and documents while restoring the computer to factory specs and settings.

Well, I restored it and now I can't find any of my files. All my music and movies are nowhere to be found. The weird thing is, my hard drive still has 140GB on it that I cannot account for.

Are my files "hidden" somewhere? I'm at a loss.

if its a desktop I would lean towards the card being the problem... You can always guy a new router and if its teh same problem take it back (same goes for the card if it's a desktop).

depends on the laptop... some laptops have eternal cards while some have internal... if its external you can just pop it out and change it... if its internal you'd have to take it in. But first things first buy a new router and see if that changes it. If it doesn't just take it back.

I'm getting a ton of spam messages lately - probably 20-30 per day. Two questions:

Is anyone noticing the same thing? A few months ago it was only 3-4, now it's multiplied.

Is it worth my while to hit block in Outlook and block the senders, or am I wasting my time doing so?

Quick question

Desktop problem. When I right click on my desktop to create new folder my PC freezes. But if I will do the same thing in existing folder it works just fine. Also I am able to drag a new folder to the desktop

Did anyone else run into this problem before ???

OK I saw the Bluetooth Dongle for sale and knew it was time I asked for some help.

I have a Bluetooth Dongle.

I have a Bluetooth PDA.

I have Bluetooth Software on my PC.

The onscreen PC portion shows they are hooked up and the PDA shows connected but I can't surf the web with my PDA. I very much suspect it's a setup problem so :

1. Do I phone Shaw and ask for help --Do they provide that service?

2. Can somebody help me with the setup?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm not noticing any extra spam. Telus seems to catch most of it. If you are suddenly getting more then you've somehow gotten on a list.

Do you get spam from the same people all the time? If so, then blocking will work. Although usually spam comes from different sources each time, so blocking won't help. Even baysian filters (the ones the "learn" what are good email vs spam based on what words are in the ones you accept vs the ones you mark as spam) on my home system are missing a specific stock market spam.

You may get some help from this site. I googled your problem and there are a number of things that can be the issue. The only solution that was mentioned more than one was from there.

alright...here's my little annoying issue. My windows media player refuses to stream any internet video. It just says 'ready' and will not start buffering, playing, or anything. Can't listen to fan960 online, can't see flames highlights at nhl.com or calgaryflames.com....can't watch live internet TV on channels like discovery.com.

I've tried reinstalling windows media player, cleared my internet temp files...ANYONE have any suggestions?

I have a question:

Hypothetically, let's say there is an insane poster that you unfortunately have a history with, and wish he would die. So, you ignore him only to find out that he likes to still attack you without you personally having the ability to find out what he is saying and respond appropriately.

Is there anyway you can block certain crazy posters from seeing what you have written?

In the past I've had this problem and corrected it by turning off popup blockers, making sure cookies were allowed and by checking through my Mozilla preferences.
