If you note, I made a point to say I wasn't saying they were not important. I also said in a subsequent post that I think all forms of entertainment are important.
I think boiling a library down to nothing more than 'entertainment' is where you're losing some people.

Presentation happening right now in city council: First bit of news -
Land parcel city owns that Saddledome sits on: 14.58 Acres
Land that Plan B arena would go on: 7.41 Acres
"Land program imagined as an exchange between the two owners"
I figured that the city already owned that land which is why this proposal was being released. Do they know that the Stampede is interested in a land swap? Why not ask for an additional block?

I used to work security at a library for several years, I know what I am talking about. While some may use it for educational purposes, the vast majority use it for entertainment.

He said he would be in favour of having more smaller locations throughout the city that made it more accessible to people in favour of building some Grand Palace like was done, but they are only hearing that they want to hear. I would 100% agree with Alberta Beef's line of thought as well. The new library is not much different than Calgary Next. All the arguments people can make about Calgary Next, can be used for that new Library.
If I am not mistaken the Flames currently get parking revenue from the parkade (lots A,B, and C). Looks like the land swap gives that land to the Stampede.

CMLC says walls need to be broken down in Victoria Park. River/train currently act as walls. Big potential w Green Line for no more barriers

Deputy city manager says as of this morning, province has assigned resources for further creosote testing in West Village #yyccc
Perhaps it's just because I don't know the development plans for the surrounding area, but right now it looks like another arena location completely separated from any stretch of restaurants/pubs/shopping, killing any hope for an entertainment district.
I hate where the Saddledome sits. Surrounded by rubbish casinos and buildings that should be condemned. I just want to see something new - not just an updated standalone arena with no hope of creating a fun environment.

This would get rid of a large chunk of that + everything else in the master plan looking to develop all the empty spaces.
The Stampede still needs a ton of open space for the midway, and the land the Saddledome is currently on will get cleared eventually. The green line will make transit a more viable option to get to games for a lot more people not currently next to a ctrain station too.

I have a friend who is directly involved with law enforcement in that area, and he's suggested to me on plenty of occasions that bulldozing old Library downtown would be in the public's best interest. Hangout of shady characters that use it as a narcotics muster point. Needless to say, he doesn't hold much hope the new one will be much different, because as you've mentioned, the people who would actually use it are not going to come downtown for it.

DiracSpike said that, but I did thank his post and agree with it completely.

The intent here is to create that district with all those uses. Particularly making Olympic Way that destination.

The city will start building it's new 500 stall parkade on 9th plus you don't know for sure that new development like the Orchard will not include parking. You can currently park under the Casino, Arriva, and Guardian. Three of the most recent Victoria Park developments.
