Looking forward to seeing the overall vision for the neighborhood. Cowboys should look at expansion or adding a hotel in that empty space facing Olympic way.

Agreed. For an area so close to downtown it is sort of a wasteland since they bulldozed all the housing in there. It is an area where some redevelopment due to a new arena along with the Stampede and new tourist attractions in the East Village and the expansion of Fort Calgary really makes a lot of sense.

Has any new information come out yet today? Is it just the usual bitching and moaning?

Huh? This is one of the most insane arguments that gets thrown around...not sure what else to say if you can't see the value a library brings to our society compared to an entertainment venue. It's an important resource that can help move the needle of success for a significant portion of the population. And it's available to the entire population.

It also won't have 18000 customers buying tickets and a TV deal.

Or better yet, sell the property to someone with a bit of taste.

Isn't reading just another form of entertainment? I won't argue that libraries are not important, but they aren't exactly used for education unless they are located in a school these days. They are mostly used for reading (entertainment), computers/internet (entertainment) and DVDs (entertainment). Which essentially makes it an entertainment venue.

I'm not wrong. It's a form of entertainment and all entertainment is vital in helping reduce stress.

I agree that libraries are important. As someone that believes that, I'd rather see the money spent on smaller, cheaper, and therefore more numerous library branches in the communities that actually need them. Not a gleaming over-built palace in an area that has next to zero kids.

Agreed. I would prefer something else. Maybe the Stampede owns the lot still and can do something on their own.

Land that Plan B arena would go on: 7.41 Acres

"Land program imagined as an exchange between the two owners"

Next Bit: Not only could an arena fit on the Victoria Park parcel, more could fit too, says admin. 782,000 sq feet of development possible

No creosote concerns on Victoria Park site.

The master plan for Victoria Park is moving fast says Brown. CMLC looking at considerable build out. Shows this image.

Maybe for you, but for some, a library is the only way they can access the internet or other valuable learning material, and it's available regardless of income.

Using the Saddledome for figure skating and short track would be doing what Vancouver did by using their old NHL arena.

It would also be doing what Calgary did by using the Saddledome for figure skating.

If you note, I made a point to say I wasn't saying they were not important. I also said in a subsequent post that I think all forms of entertainment are important.
