Treliving end of season presser. 3:15pm MT
Elliott was awful for half of the season, great for half of the season, and bad in the playoffs. There is no reason to come back with that, especially when there are better options out there.
IF Elliott had a long proven history of being the go to guy, you overlook the playoffs and maybe the season, and write it off as an off-year. Fact is, Elliott has a history of teams not believing in him down the stretch, and now we understand why.
He is what he is, and it's not a #1 goalie. The Flames need a #1, and there are some available this summer.

Fair enough, I still don't put too much weight on the first 2 months, the whole team was an absolute tire fire. I would say he can be counted on though, if I recall we were on the outside looking in when Elliott took back the net. There won't be teams lining up for his services, if he can be had for 2 years ~2M/season I think it's worth the third round pick. I don't see any better options that don't have more risk, if we get a UFA we will overpay, and if we trade for someone you're looking at paying more than a 3rd rounder in a weak draft.

Is there a website where you can get an individual players stats from a portion of the season? I'd be interested in seeing his numbers from games 20-82

I do believe there is a site called hockey reference, which is similar to baseball reference. You can search the player and check their game logs which would show those things. When I was using stats to show that Monahan was basically have the identical season when he was struggling earlier in the year I used them.

Corsica has custom queries
Oct 1 to Nov 20:
20 Games
11 GP for Elliott
Goals Saved Above Average -7.85 woof
Adjusted Fenwick Save Percentage -1.88 woof
Save Percentage 0.883 woof
Nov 21 to April 10th:
62 games
38 GP for Elliott
Goals Saved Above Average 2.81 bottom end starter numbers, the Bobrovskies/Talbots/Holtbys of the world are at around 20 goals saved above average
Adjusted Fenwick Save Pecentage 0.46 bottom end starter, good number is anything above 1
Save Percentage 0.918 bottom end starter numbers, good goalies are around 0.925
So Elliott definitely got better but he still wasn't exceptional once the season really got underway.
edit: alarming stat, leaguewide from the start of the playoffs through to yesterday's games, 23 low danger shots resulted in goals. 7 of those were on Elliott. He's the only goalie to surrender more than 2.

That is very alarming and more proof horrible goaltending was the reason for the sweep. I also assume it doesn't count the rebounds goals he allowed from initial low danger shots?

Low danger is any shot from outside of the "home plate" area so I imagine the rebounds would be considered high danger shots and not part of the 7.

One thing I noticed in game 4 was an adjustment in having Versteeg and Gaudreau swap sides. Not sure if it was after the first PP but it was pretty exciting with all the space they had on the ice.

That presser was meh. Would like to have seen Treliving take a little bit more ownership of the state of the union.
Brouwer was terrible and non-existent for most of the season. Also, the Elliott move... he clearly stated that without both goaltenders we wouldn't be in the playoffs. That is true of all teams that make the playoffs. It was a good move on paper but did not work out for us, especially in the playoff's when we needed some critical saves to keep us in the game.
Even Elliott was able to accept responsibility for his play.
The coach was proud of special teams improvement. However, anything was an improvement over how terrible it started.
I'm not sure if I would rather not make the playoffs or make the playoffs and be swept.

I don't think that the GM can throw players under the bus - even if they deserved it. Either the player has to play for you next year, or if they are not, incoming players take note of that sort of thing.
Tre is never going to say "I made a horrible mistake bringing in Troy Brouwer. He was a terrible player and I wish I never signed him"

For sure.
Treliving not saying that isn't him not owning up to mistakes, it's him being a professional.

I understand singling out a player(s) isn't something that may happen. However, responsibility is key. Even Elliott has owned it. There was too much of a positive spin on being handily swept which has had me thinking about the rebuild for the last couple of days.
There is still a lot of work to be done... and can we be rebuilt on midpack finishes being acceptable.

I disagree. For one thing, the Flames were swept, but I would hardly characterise any of Anaheim's wins as "handily" earned. Second, I would say that the rebuilding stage of this team is pretty well done. What I mean by that is that the players who will be expected to form the core of a contending team are largely all already here. The team needs to improve and they need some additions on the edges—most notably, a goalie and a #4 defensemen. There is not really "a lot of work to be done" beyond what the players presently here can do to naturally progress.

He's not going to trash or devalue Brouwer publicly. I'm sure they are pretty frank in the player exit interviews and they let him know that they expect more next season as well they probably hope LV is looking at picking him in the expansion draft.

No way should they even consider bringing back Elliott and be required to give the Blues a 3rd round pick... should not be on the table.

Treliving agrees with you. Not a lot of work to do.
I just hope next year we don't end up missing the playoffs or a similar result in the playoffs. I'm normally very positive and patient, but based on the series I was looking for Treliving to own some of the decision making which resulted in our quick elimination. Even Elliott was able to identify his part in it.
I have a lot of respect for Treliving and his decisions, but in the past he has always clearly identified and owned issues. Didn't get that today.

^ again, what is he supposed to say exactly? Write his speech please. Because all I got is this:
Brouwer was a huge mistsje. I may have to give up assets to get Vegas to take him, but I'm will to so I can correct this huge mistake I made in signing him. We have a lot of money coming off the books this year and I promise not to waste it like I did on Brouwer.
I gambled with Brian Elliott, and that failed miserably. I hoped he could be a #1 goaltender and he was was brutal when it counted most.
Giving up assets for these no good players who cost us playoff success is 100% on me.
I should have played hardball with Gaudreau, insisted he be in camp. His, and the teams, slow start to the season may have been avoided if I would have suspended him if not signed by World Cup.
You expected to hear something like that?
