So an up and comer, as opposed to a veteran castaway.
IMO that's Scott Darling.

You guys realize any available goalie is a failed starter who lost his job?
Teams don't trade their starter.

Scott Darling finished top 5 in even strength save%. He has shown the ability to be a starter at this level. I think he has a chance to be the next Talbot, Bobrovsky, Schneider, Andersen and etc.

You do realize that some teams could have 2 of the top 31 goalies in the league right?

Get rid of chaisson, bouma up front. First and foremost. I think its time to trade a couple d prospects for high end SKILLED offensive rw

Maybe the board should incorporate a new feature that replaces the text of all your posts with *I hate everything*. It is honestly how I end up reading just about everything you write.

I don't think the Flames prospect base is particularly strong on defence.

The team needs more talent up front and it needs depth players that can contribute to winning hockey games.
I'm hoping that the talent comes via the development of Bennett, Tkachuk, and Ferland, because I don't think the team has the assets or the cap space to go after anyone.
I'm hoping that the depth comes via Stockton but I'm not optimistic considering GG's hesitance to play rookies and the Flames' general incompetence in player development.
The core is where it needs to be and the goaltending can be solved by one of several NHL goalies who will be looking for job this summer.

Goaltender
Resign Stone or another #4.
Fix the bottom pairing
Not worried about anything else and would prefer not to sign any bad contracts fixing something that isn't broken.

2016 Off-season needs: Goalie, Too 6 right winger, #4 defenseman
2017 Off-season needs: Goalie, Top 6 right winger, #4 defenseman
Despite the needs bring almost identical...I believe the team has progressed dramatically...especially in terms of depth.

I am most curious about people's feelings regarding the second pair: would you prefer that the Flames prioritise re-signing Stone, or targeting another defensemen in free agency?
I am honestly not sure. I was extremely impressed especially at first by how he stabalised the second pairing, but a part of me wonders how much that was because we were comparing it to Brodie with Wideman. I also worry a little about the long term effects of his injury recovery moving forward.

?
You guys are the ones with the same bitching about goalies like last year.
Last year it was justified. This year it's not. Elliott is good value, all of your replacement suggestions will bring similar performance at a higher price.
I'm fine with replacing him if there's a good deal to be had though. Definitely don't think it's as important as you whiners.
