Flames have over 50 employees without new contracts
Friedman talked about it on the fan 960 and said this was extremely rare.
What is going on with this organization?

Maybe it's upto Seattle Metropolitans who they want to retain. Hopefully they can fire Ken King atleast.

Isn't this the reason Friedman stopped doing Fan 960 for a while? People latch onto some detail he said it's blown out of proportion.
He made a point of mentioning he DOESN'T KNOW how many people are without a contract next year, but it could be up to 50. Big whoop. Once there is a GM in place, all that gets settled quickly.

Was he including players in this estimate? Because we have about 21 combined UFA's and RFA's

Probably also includes AHL and ECHL staff. I would guess with them selling the Thunder those contracts would just expire.

Murray Edwards is what's going on with this organisation. He does things his way. Big dog style.
Of course, he's an oil and gas guy who knows eff all about hockey, and he runs an NHL franchise that has had little success under his ownership. But maybe he's right and everyone else in the league is wrong.

Which is a total crock. He does this to try and generate heat and then complains. He knows what he's doing.

It's no different than Doug MacLean continuing to bring up Dougie Hamilton trade rumours.

He said he was told 52 people are without contracts. At least that's what I heard.

Many hockey staff without contracts and no season ticket holders for next year going into the off-season.

Even if they move it won't be next season so that doesn't make sense.
Especially if you plan on threatening to move. You'd want your season ticket commitments for the last season before you do that. Plus it sounds like the city and the Flames have made progress so I seriously doubt a move is on the table still. ( http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...ncil-1.4079031)
A straight up sale might make more sense? Honestly that would probably be a good thing. Lets pool our money guys. I'll chip $363.36

What are the NHL rules regarding franchise relocation ??? I thought I heard something along the lines of a 500 million relocation fee .... if that is true then whoever buys the team and moves it will have to put out a lot of money ... and if its the current ownership taking the team somewhere else its going to cost them a lot of money to make this move ... Atlanta moved to Winnipeg , does anyone know what that transaction cost ???

I would think that before we make any judgements about the flames organization we likely need some context such as:
- how many contractless employees do other eliminated teams have currently
- how many employees are there in total with contracts
etc

What? He specifically said it is very rare and the Flames run their team different than any other team.
Don't see how a thread on CP is blowing it out of proportion. He has legit sources and he wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.
He specifically said some one told him that and it's not normal for teams to have that many guys without a contract.
And how will a GM settle this? It's the owners in Calgary that are a problem, wake up and stop closing your ears and eyes.

It didn't sound like it. Sounded like he was talking about scouts and people like that as well as the AHL coaches.

Also, how many Flames' employees were without contracts this time last season.

Considering he has consistently said Calgary does business different than any other team and today said it again and called it very rare that a team would have so many people without a contract, I'd say there is merit to it especially when it's coming out of the mouth of one of the most respected reporters in the NHL.
