		| The City of Calgary announced Thursday that Calgary’s green cart composting program will begin rolling out in June with all eligible homes ready to start their service by the fall.
 ...

Green carts will be delivered to homes across Calgary, starting in the southwest the week of June 5.

Cart delivery will continue in the northwest in July, followed by the northeast in August and then the southeast in September.

All eligible homes will have green cart service in time for the fall yard waste clean-up with carts provided to approximately 320,000 single-family homes up to (and including) fourplexes.

All food, yard waste and pet waste is accepted in the green cart. Extra yard waste can be put in paper yard waste bags and will also be collected.

I'm looking forward to the green carts. I hope that between that and the blue cart we can basically eliminate the black cart, but I guess we'll see.

I am looking forward to owning a collection of city provided carts that span all the colors of the rainbow and I will bow down to our cart overlords

Great news, we have the compost in the backyard but will still have stuff that can go into the green bin that's not suitable for the compost. We only put one bag in the black bin a week as it is, this will further reduce that to probably one every two weeks.

I'm fine with the concept of the green cart but I physically do not have room for a 3rd cart. I'm either going to have to rebuild a fence or put it somewhere out of the way that guarantees it won't be used.

Love the avatar. It looks good on you. Keep posting.

On topic, that won't happen. My city has green bins and blue bags and idiots still throw out a lot of crap. It's shocking.

It would be nice if they could give us smaller black bins, and they cut the fee a bit for garbage collection. We are all disposing of the same quantity of stuff, it is just now over 3 bins that have 3 separate fees. If we are reducing the actual trash amount, shouldn't we pay less for that?

In that case, can we just paint our black carts green and skip all the steps in between?

My black cart is going to be pretty much just diapers.

How do you expect the city to pay for that 143 million dollar facility they are building?

With the green bin fee? Savings from less garbage collection? I'm saying it should be one waste collection fee instead of 3. Balance it amongst all collection, and savings form one can cover the other. I'd love to see the books on this since the beginning of the blue bins when our waste collecting fees doubled. Now they go up a third again. Is that covering the cost, or going to general revenue? Or do we just accept yet another fee?

That should be pleasant by day 13. They will be going to black cart collection every 2 weeks.

Well I'm a man of my word. Hopefully they lose miserably so I can at least enjoy that and finally see them draft out of the top ten!

That is the one issue. I haven't quite figured out where to put this 3rd cart. I need it accessible and useful, but also somewhere outside where it won't be an eyesore.

While mother nature and her blistering wind has long been wreaking havoc on my existing, under-matched, 2-bin setup - constantly toppling them and spreading the contents throughout my street. This new 3-bin setup, dubbed "MegaBin" and assembled in a triangular fashion, will finally turn the tables. Good luck blowing over this triad of highly sorted waste materials!

I hate this purely for the fact that I now have to be somewhat awake so I can remember which cart needs to be dragged into the alley in the morning.
