Pretty awesome crop of rookies this year. A lot of other years Tkachuk could have been a finalist, but pretty tough to crack the top 3 this year. Oh well, he still had a fantastic year and the NHL is going to be in good shape for years with all of those young stars.

I would like to thank you, sureLoss, for calling them Finalists, as opposed to others who call them Nominees. I don't know why it drives me batty, but it does...

This will be a slam dunk for Matthews.

Even Finalists isn't really an accurate term since there isn't another round of voting. It's really just the Calder Top 3 and they just make us wait a couple of months to find out the order they finished.

Matthews wins this hands down. I think Laine is a great talent but what Matthews has done for the Leafs will swing the votes in his favour.

I hate the Leafs as much as anyone but hard to argue against Matthews. He played a large role in the Leafs making the playoffs. The other two players can't say that.

Matthews was great and would've won playing like he did for any team. The fact he's in Toronto eliminates any doubt. Great player.

It's kind of weird though. Matt Murray one of the best rookies in the 2016-2017 season, who backstopped his team to a Stanley Cup in the 2016 playoffs.

Laine's PPG was better than Matthews and if he was a Leaf and Matthews a Jet that would be brought up in the media every day. Both had amazing years but Laines injury gave Matthews the extra games needed to win this thing
