I'm confused. Can somebody explain to me where this idea came from about Bartkowski being terrible? I can't think of any glaring mistakes at any point, and he's been relatively solid in the role of a 3rd pairing d-man. Not amazing, but not costing the team goals or games that I can remember. Where is this narrative coming from? Is he just the new whipping boy?
He's still a billion times better than Wideman.
Neither are all that good. Slow decision making, getting hemmed in his own zone, horrible defensive coverage... Gets blown by twice a period. Always looks confused as hell with the puck on his stick when he's behind the net. Wouldn't mind him as a #7, but I pray he isn't taking a regular shift next season.

If he's not pressured, he can skate the puck out fairly well and in some cases, with impressive speed.
I think the ducks know they should rush in when Bart has the puck and create a turnover.
You're right. Flames outplayed the Ducks in games 2 and 3. They could win 3 in a row if they keep it up and Elliott pulls it together. The problem is, with losing the first 3 games, one bad bounce at this point could be a series ender. No room for mistakes and bad luck which is a rough spot to be in.
I'm excited for the game tonight, though. They will be hungry and ready to make up for the last 2 losses that should have been wins.
Well the Ducks have had their fair share of bounces already! They shouldn't get anymore!

I don't think he's terrible, you're right, he's definitely playing up to the level of a 3rd pairing. I think the more appropriate question to ask is: why is he getting so much ice time? GG seems to employ a strategy of even ice time throughout his lines, but the Ducks are a clear example of overloading ice time to your top players.

Agree, the only bounces they deserve are bounces off Bieksa's skate and into his own net. Then a bounce off Perry's butt and into his own net.
But, the way the NHL calling the games, they'll probably both of those goals no goal cos there is a distinct kicking motion on Bieksa's part and Perry clearly butted the puck into the net.

You're right, he's a great skater, but often he ends up just rimming the puck around the boards and it leads to a turnover. I have a eternally looping replay of him doing that against the Ducks at the end of the reg season right to Getzlaf who slid it to Holzer for the easy tap in burned into my head.
Stajan is pretty much fine in a defensive role - he's a good checker and brings good puck sense to his line. No - he isn't a scorer, but for the most part that hasn't been his role on this team either. Younger legs in for him doesn't hurt - but they don't have the experience either. I have no problem with Matt Stajan's play in general, as long as I don't expect point production from him, but great PK and checking.

In a playoff series you need contributions from unexpected sources, including your 4th line guys. I just don't see that as a reasonable expectation from Stajan.
Compare directly across the ice to Thompson and it's a matchup the Flames are losing, hands down. Lazar and Freddie can at least bring some pep, speed, and energy to the game. Put them in the offensive zone and it's not unfathomable that scoring chances could be generated, and they have hands to finish that Stajan simply doesn't at this stage of his career.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more. The fewer men, the greater share of honour. God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more....
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd, And rouse him at the name of Crispian. He that shall live this day, and see old age, ...Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars, And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.' Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember, with advantages, What feats he did that day.Then shall our names, Familiar in his mouth as household words.... From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother;

Bartkowski looks terrified when he has the puck on his stick in his own end. Like the mind of a random fan has been zapped into his body and is wondering what the **** to do.
He's a far better skater than Wideman. But his vision and passing are much worse.
