Otherwise there's not much to complain about. Tough break, but you move on to game 4. 2 and 3 were completely winnable, let's see them at least get a couple wins and break the curse in Anaheim!
Go Flames!

2 goals last game and 2 goals this game was the difference unfortunately. Having a consistent goalie is the difference between a winning team and a losing team.
Well, let's see what Flames desperation looks like. GFG

The high-stick was complete BS but you can't let something like that deflate you. They stopped attacking and were on their heels.
I'll cheer for them until the bitter end but damn this was pretty much a must win and there's no excuse for letting the 4-1 lead slip away. Can't see Elliott getting the start game 4 either.
Also, hate the Ducks so much right now.
|
That's when GG should've called a timeout to calm the team down, why won't he use the timeout! Doesn't he know that he cannot bank his timeout for next game!
He botched the 5 on 3 not calling a timeout, and he messed up again not calling a timeout to calm the troop.

I wonder why Gully did have the Flames pressing more in the third. Our defence, except for late in the game, didn't rush the puck or get involved in the play. All we did was dump it into the Ducks end and back peddled as the Ducks started to mount some offence. We basicly handed them the game.
Anyway some huge growing pains for the Flames. They don't have the mental toughness or composure to compete in the playoffs.

I was completely done from the time they counted that *clearly* high stick'd goal.
Yes, they were also bad goals that we let in to choke it away...
but between the goal that should have counted last game and the bogus late penalties in game two - to the goal that clearly should not have counted in this game and the blatant high stick missed on Backlund in the closing minutes of this game
I'm done. The league is a &^%$ing joke.
From the minute that goal was counted, I was devoid of any feeling. I just knew how done they / I were / was.
Completely done with hockey for this year.
The NHL is an utter joke.

He's the reason for two losses, the Elliott apologists make me want to throw up.

Flames were mentally fragile in every game so far, part of that to me falls on coaching.

Not even upset as I knew they were going to lose after the Ducks tied it. Next shot wins is never good when your goalie is preforming the way Elliott was. Another bad rebound, another bad goal. It is really too bad because I thought the team played disciplined and left it all out there, just the one guy who didn't show up happens to be your most crucial player.

I'm glad we don't have him signed long term.

No, the players are different when they're goalie sucks.
The coach behind the Ducks bench pulls his goalie and guess what, the team rallies and wins it. The Flames bench boss did nothing, and that apathy set the precedence.

This is the lameness that is the NHL, their statement on the high stick.
At 11:14 of the third period in the Ducks/Flames game, video review confirmed that Nate Thompson's stick was at or below the height of the crossbar when he deflected the puck into the Calgary net. According to Rule 38.4 (vi) "The determining factor is where the puck makes contact with the stick in relation to the crossbar. If the puck makes contact with the portion of the stick that is at or below the level of the crossbar and enters the goal, this goal shall be allowed". Good goal Anaheim.#
The actual answer should have been 'over the crossbar, no goal'

I'm frustrated but I don't think Elliott is the reason.
He wasn't great, he fought the puck but he didn't single handedly lose the game.
|
Yes, he did. His rebound control was atrocious. Two of the goals for sure should not have gone in. His team deserved to win that game and Elliott let them down.

This is exactly the kind of loss that destroys franchises.
Looking forward to the stupid reactionary trade.

I hope it's an Oilers-Leafs cup so I can have a good laugh and then never watch the NHL ever again.

he just stood in front and hoped the puck would hit him or deflect off him...
the ducks actually shoot the puck and jam the net... flames trying for the highlight of the night too much...
psst... we're not that good

I've keep my mouth shut about Gulutzen, good or bad, for most of the season but his inability to quickly adapt and make changes has been more then troubling. Takes way too long to adjust and change then it should.
