Referee Brian Pochmara had ruled it no goal but the game was paused as the NHL’s Situation Room took a peek.
Viewers at home had reason to believe it would be overruled, to no avail.
Seeking clarification on the call, NHL senior VP Hockey Operations, Mike Murphy, told Postmedia how it went down.
“We reviewed the play because the puck went into the net,” said Murphy in an email.
“We checked to make sure the net was on, which it was. The refs, however, informed us that they had NO GOAL on the ice because (Anaheim goalie John) Gibson was bumped in the crease and unable to play his position. That is their call and the play is not reviewable, so their call on the ice rules.” http://www.calgarysun.com/2017/04/16...roversial-call
BS!!! They were scrambling and so many players fighting to get to the puck. Referees made the call and we all know they think they are superior and will not listen to anyone.
Why is the NHL saying the call wasn't reviewable? Isn't goaltender interference reviewable? Can you not review it for some reason when the ref thinks the player pushed the goalie into the net or something?
With respect to Gaudreau not shooting, yes you simply have to shoot from there. Period.
But I wasn't surprised because there is no doubt that he is still hurt. Not only have there been multiple shots of him holding his hands, wincing, and looking at his fingers, but just look at the shots that he has taken over the last few weeks - absolute muffins.
He took a shot in the first period that I would guess wouldn't have hit 30 on the radar gun. He has no confidence in his shot because he currently doesn't have a shot.
So no surprise that he passed the puck.
Also, the people calling him soft, give your head a shake. He is noticeably in pain. And the Ducks are whacking the crap out of him.

I said this during the season as well, but I'm a believer in Peter Mahr's theory that streaks begin to end before they actually end. The Ducks have been on an incredible roll to end the season, let alone the curse streak, but are lucky to have won both playoff games. Flames have a terrible record in the last 8-10 games but seem to be playing better than that would suggest. A win at home to break both streaks and maybe they can start new ones in the other direction for the rest of the series.

Yup. The Flames have been playing well against the Ducks for a while now but just finding ways to lose the game.
When it breaks, it's breaking big and the Flames will go on a roll.
I am not worried at all about the 'now we have to win 4 out of 5' crap. When the Flames break through and get a win, and then start getting that confidence back, they are going to win several in a row against these Ducks.

I think is is very true, there is something wrong with Johnny and he maybe hurt. Just wish it was Brouwer or Bouma but no it has to be Johnny.
Brodie's penalty was just flat out unacceptable. Not much else to say.
But everything else was just so tight. A bounce here or a bounce there this series is completely different.
The only infuriating thing for me was the Hamilton penalty. GG was on point. How do you only call one penalty in that scenario? Hamilton was rushing to get back into the play after jumping up into the rush, and he was interfered with. By none other than Corey Perry, one of the biggest rats in the game. If that was Tkatchuk, who would have received the penalty? You talk about bias' and benefit of the doubt, how does Hamilton get the only penalty in that? Its asinine.
As tight as the checking was in that game, it was a really good game up until that point. The refs had put away their whistles and both teams were getting their chances. Then the refs took over. If he high sticks a guy, or a blatant trip, I can live with that. But that call was ridiculous given the circumstances.
What infuriates me is that if that is a penalty, then call it both ways. Chiasson had to violently drag Lindholm, who was latched onto his stick, when the Flames had some offensive pressure in the 2nd. The ref was looking right at them not 6 feet away and no call. Some effing consistency would be great.
[QUOTE=TheScorpion;6223795]I cannot wait for tomorrow's game. I've never been to a playoff game before and it's going to be raucous.

Brouwer has been so so bad. Even on the PP parks himself in front of the net but can't redirect to save his life. On one PP last night the puck was on line to at least hit Gibson and force him to make a save. But Brouwer sticks his knee out and it redirects off his leg, over the boards. Let Ferly in there, at least he has some soft hands.

I mean look at the difference - Johnny ties it in 2015 from right next to the dot with Anderson on the edge of the crease. Last night Gibson was swimming in the blue paint and Johnny was another two steps in. He needs to shoot instead of being a Tanguay.
Even if Gibson makes a save there should be a rebound right in the slot. Johnny's trying to be too cute, stick to the basics.

It's the day after and things aren't as bleak as emotions may have impaired my judgement last night. I can't imagine what CP would be like if we had Chicago's play-off start.
The Flames have at least scored some goals and it's been close.

I think by not reviewable they mean that it isn't reviewable by the command center - it would be up to the Flames to challenge the call by the refs in which case it would be reviewed by the on-ice officials

I have no problem with Gaudreau not shooting there. Surprise and creativity are good things and the guy who shot almost scored. There was a hole there and if he hit it we would all be marvelling at the vision and skill of Gaudreau on the game-tying goal.

Agreed. Maher's a smart man and there's some truth to it.
We saw it with the Flames' streak with the Jets and Pens wins being on the progressively more fortunate side, before that Boston game where they were exposed. The Ducks in this series have been arguably more on the fortunate side than good. While the Flames have not been bad enough to drop both of those in regulation, so more unfortunate. At some point, things usually flip the other way.
The problem is there might not be enough games at the pond left for them to break through there. And if you don't, then you don't have another chance for months. Need to find a way to pick up both home games so that there's a chance for them to expose Anaheim's more casual/fortunate play at home in either a game 5 or 7. It's got to happen with enough cracks. No doubt that it felt like that streak was on the ropes yesterday if not for the stupid, stupid call.
I'll be at game 4 giving them all my support. I really hope I won't be attending an elimination game..

To be fair, watch the Monahan PPG from last night. Gibson has NO idea where the puck is and is pushing out to Gaudreau still because Brouwer has taken away his ability to see. Monahan has an empty net as a result of Brouwer's screen.
On the disallowed goal annoyed me. The standard changes more than the wind. You can put that video up against the ducks ot winner from 2015 and the Kings goal earlier this year and your conclusion would be it is completely random. We were told earlier in the year that a loose puck in the crease allows for some contact. Apparantly not the case.
In regards to the Dougie penalty, blew my mind that was called. Typically in the third they will only call what needs to be called or if it takes a scoring chance away (sometimes this isn't even the case). Look at the calls up to that point, they were high sticking and slahing minors. No dedating those. Up until the last 5 minutes of the game they were letting the players decide the game, which is the way it should be.
The way this team is playing I have confidence that we will still win this series. Ducks are getting bounces and calls to win game after being outplayed. They have an AHL defence with all the injuries. Getzlaf is averaging 2 points per game. None of this is sustainable. I'm not a stats guy but my feeling is we are outplaying them in just about every important metric....especially last night.
At some point it's going to catch up with them. If it's not against Calgary it will be against the round two opponent who will put them away in 5 or less. Don't get me wrong, they're a really good team. I just think people don't realize how good WE are as well. A big run is coming our way....all we need is a spark (like a few home wins and a win in that god forsaken arena).

Then what makes no sense to me is that if the on-ice call takes precedence, why was it reviewed in the first place??
Don't kid yourself they made that up as they were reviewing the play. I didn't see any indication from the officials they were calling it off for goaltender interference after the goal and skating to center ice as they simply had no idea it went in. I think they looked at the replay and the guys in Toronto said it was a goal and the on ice officials looked for excuses to not overturn their ruling.
