The Stern appearance was gold, they're huge fans and couldn't wait to get him on. Fred has been dropping some Borat clips into the show for some time now.

Pretty damn funny. I saw it last night with preshow entertainment of a cat fight in the audience!
Anyway, it was funny but there were more bits that were grim and shocking yet still cryingly funny (watch for hotel room scene) that I didn't expect as much. Stood up as a two hour show from a 5 minute segment pretty damn well.

Isn't it only 80 mins long or something?
Even still, it still has a 96% on RottenTomatoes.
Going in about an hour and I can't wait!

Easily both the funniest and most offensive movie I have seen this century. It is a brilliant satire, and makes me very happy I'm not an American.

Yeah we got there about 20 minutes before you and they were just annoucing another showing of 11:45. Shows you how popular this movie is. It's also only playing in 2 theaters in the city I think, Chinook and Sunridge (I think), which is probably the reason it's all sold out.

Fox News didn't like it. link

Borat is as ridiculous as the subjects he decides to humiliate in this intentional commentary about some of our country's "ugly Americans," who we all know exist. It is not always clear whether his subjects are in on the gags.
Regardless, America haters will love how Cohen uses Michael Moore-type scenarios to get his point across.
|
So, if you like this movie you are an "America hater"?

I was afraid it was going to dissappoint me because I had heard so much hype about it.. well it far exceeded my expectations. I watched it with 4 Americans and even though they were a little bit embarrased they found it absolutely hilarious.
Brilliant movie

Yeah I was over zelous with my movie time, but I just meant it's hard sometimes to spin out a whole film from a small feature.

I was watching CFCN and they had a story about how alot of Kazakhs are really upset about the movie and how it falsely portrays their country. A few people actually wanted him killed for it.

A) If that's the case, I'm not sure how far off Borat really is.
B) How can anyone think that this movie is about anything except for mocking the US? Kazakhstan has nothing to do with anything.

I don't think it's about mocking the US per se it's about mocking stereo types. The Kazakh one being amongst them.

He addressed that though, in the Conan interview when he said, "this is not strictly true, there have been much controvasy about my movie films in my country because of amount of anti-sematisms in it. However, eventually Kazahkstan's have decided there was just enough of it and allowed it to be released."
He also said, "If it not success, I will be execute." Maybe he was onto something.

Hahah, the Kazakh government bought a full page ad-space in the NY Times recently to promote their country, and one of the lines they use to gather interest is something close to "We have the largest wolve population in the world".

How many moments of cringing are there? Like awkward embarrasing cringing like him singing the horrible anthem at the rodeo where everybody was ready to pull their shotguns on him? I generally like to watch those sorts of awkward social things at home where I can cringe in private.
