Under 3min left and no timeout called ???? If so inexcusable as a coach you want to make damn sure everyone is on the same page.
It is not the only reason they lost but it one of the signuficant reasons. The amateur moment of tge coaches calling all 5 players off the ice at stupid time and the lazy skate back by all 5 players that was absurd.
|
Tough call because the Anaheim PKers would be tired already at that point. Calling a timeout gives them a chance to catch a breather as well.
I don't disagree with the call for that reason. There's a reason teams practice PPs non-stop all year long.

I can't fault Tkachuk tonight it is pretty clear the goonery by LA and ANA recently has taken a physical toll on the teenager.

I just don't see this game as an utter failure. What the Ducks got, we gave them in error.
We weren't dominated. We're a young team, and made some young mistakes.
The biggest failure tonight falls on inexperience, and some of our experience failing us. Stajan and Brouwer brought very, very little - if anything at all this evening. Engelland had a rare night of mistakes. Engelland will bounce back, he's given us more than enough reason to believe that. The Flames need to make that 4th line more effective though (in my eyes). I'd love to see Hamilton - Lazar - Brouwer given a shot.

On the bright side, the Flames have a ton of room for improvement and only just came up short in this one. Also, Ferland is a playoff beast.
On the down side, this series is going to be as visually unappealing as a turd in the sunshine. I hate watching Ducks games of any kind.

Nope, doubt you'll post after good vibes happen and the curse is over. Either way 7 days just isn't long enough but it'll have to do.

Positives:
Elliot - was sensational. How he was able to save all those passes out from below the goal line to the slot, I have no idea. He looks dialed-in and it makes me excited for the remainder of the series. What a save on Getzlaf on that 3 on 0... too bad about the rebound but that was a great challenge.
Giordano - thought he was amazing in the first two periods and okay in the third. He was an absolute beast in a lot of those battles and made some great plays.
Ferland - it was exciting to watch him tonight, he looked fast, strong, tough, and skilled. Too bad he didn't bury one of those chances.
Negatives:
Hamilton - looked pillowy soft tonight. Really looked overwhelmed by the moment and intimidated by the intensity level. Three awful penalties too.
Engelland and Bartkowski - thought this pair got exposed a bunch and Engelland tipped the first goal in for some dumb reason. There are times when Bartkowski is passable, but a series against the Ducks doesn't look to be one of them.
3M line - only one really good shift all game. Lost the match up to Getzlaf's line all night. Backlund and Frolik had some moments on the PK, but I think the series is hopeless unless they return to form as Calgary's top unit.
That line change was one of the worst I have ever seen at any level of hockey. It wasn't even a fast play or anything. Too lackadaisical and Engelland somehow made it even worse by cutting off all the guys trying to get back in the play. Awful.
As good as the Ducks are, they don't look unbeatable. Getzlaf and Gibson were huge for them tonight and honestly, before the terrible line change, I thought they Flames looked in great shape.
The Flames will have better games than this and it should be a fun series.

Officiating was fine; I'm glad not many are pointing the finger that way.
I'll defend Johnny because he was really trying but seemed super nervous. I think he'll be much better in game 2.
The pivotal line change was baffling. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw three Ducks streaking in, undefended, on Elliott.
If I'm coaching, I give Brouwer one more game. If he does nothing again, he's out for someone who gives a crap.

I may actually be inclined to physically punch Kesler if ever our paths should meet. He's the epitome of the greasy cheap player. I hate him so much for being so great at being a piece of sh......
