From the sounds of more and more in the legal community weighing in, he realistically could expect to deny them and have them move on and ask someone else. He is not actually required, once on board and seated, according to what I've read tonight, to give up his seat. Also, United failed in not offering the federally mandated amount in the US, for giving up a seat. So yes, it's looking more and more like United and the persons who dragged him off the plane, will be facing a lot of music for this, for some time to come. Dao is not the only person this month to have this issue with United. He's simply the first that continued to refuse them and was physically dragged off the plane. He is now also the impetus for United changing their policy in terms of removal of passengers from their airplanes.
It's a #### show no matter how you look at it. Especially for UA, in terms of PR, and how they initially handled it.

Okay, lets assume that Dao had all this knowledge about what he was legally allowed to do in that moment. Would you still take your chances and refuse to listen to 3 security guards and a police officer who are all way bigger than you.

I cannot see how he could have handled it better, he was morally right and he's going to win enough cash to gag a horse, what better outcome for a slightly blooded head that I get at least once or twice a year playing soccer could you manage?

The situation obviously could have been handled better by both parties. United should have dealt with it before the plane was boarded and the guy should have cut his losses when he realized he wasn't getting to his destination and acted like an adult.

Yes and No, The guy did not need to cut his losses, he won, and will continue winning. In addition had he not acted in the way he did, United would have gotten away with this fiasco.
This is also a win for all passengers, even though the flight was not in Canada, the Canadian government spoke up announcing they will push forward with the passenger rights charter. I am sure its happened before, its just that they did not get caught doing it.

Uh, yeah. The CEO has already admitted as much in public - the only question now is damages...

The passengers lawyers are about to hold a live press conference. It should be on most "news" channels.

I thought Dao's daughter did a great job up there on the panel. Very well spoken. Seemed like a concerned daughter, not someone trying to "cash in".

Well, it's not some trailer park guy looking for a lottery ticket. Based on experience, people like this are usually more interested in making a point, rather than just "cashing" in... not that there is anything wrong with an extra $1M or whatever he is going to get.

- Dao's wife is also a physician and needed to see patients the next day.
- Dao received a broken nose and his two front teeth were knocked out
- Lawyer says that the city is responsible here as well

Man, they roughed him up good and proper.
Bets on how long before an apologist claims that the 69 year old man pulled out his own teeth, broke his own nose and concussed himself for a bigger payout?

Interesting claim, I wonder what they'll find out.
http://www.ctvnews.ca/world/uproar-o...lice-1.3367210
The video of a passenger being dragged by an officer from a United Express flight shined an unwanted spotlight on the little-known police force that guards Chicago's two main airports and could threaten the agency's future.
Chicago's aviation officers are not part of the regular police force, unlike in many other big cities. They get less training than regular officers and can't carry firearms inside the airports. Three of them were put on leave amid outrage over how they treated the passenger.
The City Council is looking for answers about the embarrassing video that has been seen around the world. At the top of the list of questions is whether the airport officers even had the legal authority to board the plane, said Alderman Michael Zalewski, who leads the council's aviation committee.
"They are allowed in the terminal and baggage area, but my understanding is they may not be allowed on a plane," he said. Zalewski also said that he is not sure if the officers have the authority to make arrests or if they are authorized only to write tickets.

Couldn't allocating responsibility just slow down the process? Personally, I think the ones who dragged him out (the City) are responsible for the damages, but it sounds like United is willing to pay to make it go away and has deep pockets.
A public corporation like a city is more likely to play hardball I think.

Calgary airport CPS are usually guys close to retirement so they have many years of experience. I couldn't see these guys agreeing to be muscle for the airline. This "police force" in Chicago sound like glorified security guards.

You mean the same CPS that is going around baiting drivers by brake checking?
