Conf call w Jarome Iginla in 10 mins. I can't imagine him choosing now to retire, but I also can't imagine he'd have anything else to say

Addendum to the Iginla media availability - he want made available after the season so it's likely just a response to media requests

"Oh, yeah, um, not even for a moment did I consider that. I'd rather retire without a cup than ever play for that dumpster fire."

Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Iginla not retiring. LA experience rejuvenated him. "I would like to keep playing but have to wait to see what the options are."

His options will depend on his salary demands. If he's willing to play for less than 2mil he'll probably have plenty of teams to choose from.

Draft Pick

I hate to say it but how much of an asset would Iginla be on the 3rd line RW against the Ducks? He would bring the right mix of toughness, skill, and leadership. We could also use his shot on the PP in a series that will no doubt have the greatest number of penalty calls. And he would be a great mentor for two of our younger guys, Bennett and Lazar, both of who were heating up at the end of the regular season.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Lazar - Bennett - Iginla
Bouma - Stajan - Brouwer/Chiasson

As long as he stays away from Edmonton but I am concerned that is where he ends up especially if the Oil get bounced early

I'm sure playing on a line with Kopitar was fun at his age. On a contender he'd be lower down the lineup.

Needs to take under 3 million if he wants any bites.
We'll take him for 1-2.

He would've been a great add in a depth role. Think of the PP alone...
People that were against it were a little too concerned with history. Would've been a savvy hockey move for virtually nothing.

I don't think either party was interested (Burke's comments at STH dinner, local reporter comments during event (believed to be Francis).
But I do agree - Iginla's tenure with LA is essentially what I hoped Brouwer would be like all season. And he fought Engelland to a standstill. Should Brouwer continue to disappoint and be picked up in the expansion, I'd still welcome Jarome home with open arms.

He should be going to Colorado now for a 3-year $15M contract rather than doing it 3 years ago.

I'm glad he didn't return at the trade deadline because I think it would have been a big distraction, as well as probably would have changed the room finding a spot for him. It's not your typical TDL acquisition when it's one of the most popular and legendary players in franchise history. I could see it being a bit uncomfortable for some of the current Flames, as well as Iginla and management and coaching.
But if he were to come here in the off season and play the full year, I'd be a-ok with that. This is the Flames we're talking about. We always have one or two over-the-hill guys. I'd love for next year's to be Iginla. Or Jagr. Or both.

I'm just happy we now have a thread to discuss the possibility of Iginla returning to the Flames.
