They are a package deal do $14 million cap hit will be a big accrued sum at deadline day. It would be very difficult to trade both together and I personally believe they will be content playing the last game of their careers for the Canucks.

Thats a lot of cap to move. It would likely have to be done at the deadline if at all.

Desjardins will find another job. He has done yeoman's work with the team each year and other teams around the league will recognize that. He's not a perfect coach, but he does get way more out of his roster than he feasibly should. While the fit may not have been good in Vancouver anymore, I wouldn't be surprised to see him land a gig with another team.
I for one would happily take him in Florida.

They are 36 years old. If one of them suffers separation anxiety, all NHL teams have psychologists on staff.
We're not talking Chang and Eng here.

This is what you get when a team's owners don't want to endure a rebuild.

First half of the season they were in the playoff race which is amazing. Even down the stretch when they were losing they weren't getting shelled as they kept a lot of games close and you aren't going to win many games when 2 goals for is considered an offensive outburst.

Actually, judging by the deadline moves, they seem to finally have come to terms with the fact this roster isn't doing anything good.
This is what happens when the team owners want to see more Goldobin and Baertschi and see Jayson Megna and Chaput.
Make no mistake. Willie Desjardins is a decent coach who gets a lot out of his players but has trouble adapting and adjusting. The latter part is what got him fired.

He still has something of the 'Junior' mentality, but this was very clearly evident.

Willie should have coached him to stop the puck. That's really on the coach, not the goaltender. You can't blame someone for not knowing how to do something, if they haven't been coached how to do it.

The team is going nowhere until they get rid of both Sedins, Miller and most importantly - Linden.

There was a slide shown somewhere that the last few former Canucks coaches go on to some success in their next job.
Alain Vingneault - Makes Cup final with Rangers
John Tortorella - Columbus in playoffs with 16-game win streak
Glen Gulutzan - Flames in playoffs with 10-game win streak
(one other example?)
Willie D's next coaching job may have a bright side.

I mean, the team had worse results as the team got older. Shocking.
The issue is that ownership had unreasonable expectations and meddled in the day to day operations to try and meet those expectations. That cost them their best coach in the history of the team (AV) and the best American coach of all time (Torts).
I still think the firing of Vigneualt was one of the biggest mistakes in the history of the franchise.

It amazes me how Maurice continues to hang around the NHL all these years with pretty mediocre results. I mean, he's never been lucky enough to get locked in with a juggernaut team, but he's barely got a .500 record as a head coach in this league, and has only had his teams make the playoffs 5 times in almost 20 years.
He had a nice run in the early 2000's with Carolina, but IIRC that team was in a weaksauce division and even when they were making it to round 3 and 4 of the playoffs regularly, there regular season records were nothing special.

He would have got fired eventually anyway as you say the roster was getting worse annually so team performance would follow suit and eventually he would have got let go for having his shelf life expire and a tem on the decline.

He's the very definition of mediocrity. The Jets getting hot at the end of the season after being eliminated means absolutely nothing yet it's cemented an extension for him which is probably the worst thing that could happen for that franchise. Better goaltending could help for sure but what exactly are they expecting will be different bringing him back? They will score plenty of goals as always but they will take a lot of penalties and play shoddy defense as always. Maybe better goaltending can make up for the lack of defensive details but as we have seen in Calgary bad GAA and poor defensive play often go hand in hand.

He said in his media availability today that he doesn't anticipate any changes to the coaching staff for next season.
