This makes it easy for Russia to drop Assad. Now they can say 'he went too far, he's on his own.'
Then they coordinate strikes with US, letting the Yanks know where Russian assets are so that there are no accidents. Us will be doing all the heavy lifting on the condition that they let Moscow replace Assad with a more palatable guy, but still their guy.
Russia gets rid of a problem while keeping influence.
Russia and US get cozier.
US gets to act like cowboys and scare N Korea.

For that to matter to the avg American they would need to understand more than 2-3 words in your sentences. Fat chance!

what better way to change the focus of the media than to start a war?
funny, how contradictory Trump is... when Obama was in office, he flat out said that he should NOT attack, that the president could not act unilaterally...
Governing is a lot harder than lobbing tweets from the sidelines...
If Russia troops are collateral damage, this could get ugly

I disagree with Trump on almost everything, but I have been waiting for 6 years for someone to do something to actually stop Assad, and so I have to give him props for doing something Obama never had the balls to do.

It's the right move to make. He is the wrong person to be leading it. Somehow he will mess it up.

Crazy that it takes 50 cruise missiles. How big was the air base?

Sounds like the airbase was built to protect planes from an Israeli attack, so it was pretty well fortified.

There are a lot of actors in this theater...
the problems in this area are very complex and span generations....Its more than Assad/Russian/Iran... its also a Sh i i te versus sunni
we'll have to see what shakes out... it might be a case where it's only infrastructure that is damaged...ie targeting operational capacity and not targeting actual personnel...
Obama never did it because there was no appetite from the american people for opening up another conflict - one of the main pillars of his campaign was to get troops out of Iraq asap...
Syria, with all its complexities, was first and foremost a civil war... lots of moving parts with that

It's a proportional response to the chemical attack. Have no mistake the Russians were given a heads up.

There goes between 50 and 60 million USD, its crazy how we talk about cutting all these tiny programs like PBS, the arts endowments, etc... Yet the military is the yuuuuugest of yuge spending programs.

Well, I sure hope this was the right move. I'll give him one thing -- he didn't dick around. On the other hand, changing his mind so quickly and drastically based on an apparently emotional reaction is a little disconcerting.
I wonder if it'll make him change his tune on Syrian refugees.

Some were speculating that most aircraft would be in hardened bunkers, and that it would take repeated strikes against a bunker to actually damage the aircraft.
