I had him on my fantasy team this year and he was on IR 3 or 4 freaking times.

He's made of glass.

Considering how important he was in their run last year this has to be a killer blow to their Cup chances. One of these days the Capitals have to get to the final don't they?

The funny thing is as an overall D man Shultz is better than Letang. Letang is one of the best offensive D men in the NHL but he is a nightmare in his own end. Shultz is solid on both offence and defence. The Penguins will be fine without Letang, with the breakout of Schultz and the other additions they added on the blueline I think they are better actually.

This is categorically false.

Letang averaged 28:53 a night on last year's Stanley Cup champs.

Schultz averaged 13 minutes a night playing eight fewer games.

Plus their entire careers side by side. Categorically false.

Does not change the facts that Letang is not good at defence, is made of glass, and that Schultz has become the better overall D man with his development this year. What does the past have anything to do with it. Is Toews a better player than McDavid?

I'll listen to the argument that you cannot reasonably rely on Letang due to his injury history.

Defensive liabilities don't at 30 minutes a night in the post season. When they do, their teams get bounced in round 1, they don't get their names on the mug.

Now this is false. Many teams have had success with an offensive D man that is not good in his own end. Why do you think Letang has never made team Canada for the Olympics? He is one dimensional. Most years his +/- is not that great, especially for a guy logging as many minutes as he does on the most stacked team in the NHL. This year he is +2, Schultz is +26. Schultz also has 49 points and while he has played more games that is still top tier numbers playing with 2nd pairing ice time. It is also easy to see if you watch a lot of Penguin games which I do because I always load up on them for pool reasons. Letang is really not good in his own end. He might be better than Schultz offensively but the gap is not that wide and Schultz is much more solid in his own end.

Jeff Schultz once led the league in +/- on a stacked Capitals team.

Dennis Wideman had 50 points two years ago.

Neither are better players than a healthy Kris Letang.

Neither is Justin Schultz. Woe to whomever gives that dude $5M+ on July 1.

Lol....calling Justin Schultz better than Kris Letang....that's laughable and I watch a ton of Penguins hockey. go ask some pens fans if they would rather have letang injured or schultz injured.

big loss for the pens.
