Sure, just as soon as the refs who made the poor decisions all of a sudden get some enforced vacation time during the playoffs.
I still think the refs should be publicly held accountable for a poorly officiated game. Same as a player diving gets penalized and fined.....day off with no pay, and the next offence, 3 games off, and so on.
Bush league officials.
people have to give the league credit for this one.
not saying it excuses other NHL decisions, but they should get credit this time.
Not really. I can't remember the last time the league actually enforced (upheld?) an auto one-game suspension as a result of an instigator in the dying minutes.
The league wants to stop end-of-game message-sending, and the ref's role in that process is to call the fighting penalties and assign an instigator if needed. It then automatically goes to the league for review, and the league decides if the start of the fight was egregious enough to warrant the one-game suspension.
Like I said earlier, though, I can't remember the last time the league upheld the suspension part of one of these altercations, and the way they do that is to "rescind" the penalty after the fact.
They're not saying the refs were wrong, they're just saying it wasn't outlandish enough to warrant the suspension. A player would pretty much have to go beer-league on someone completely out of the blue for the league to ever not rescind it. (Or have a history of getting last-minute instigators.)

Public held accountable, sure. But as for fines and the like? No chance; that'll lead to more unstable refereeing than there is now. Refs will be calling absolutely anything and anything, to the point that it'll kill the flow of the game.
But I would like to see the veil of invincibility pierced on occasion, though. An interview post-game or some in-game influence from the Player Safety department or whoever it is that reviews the instant replays and the like.
Yep, great coaches seem to completely lose their #### on the refs once in a while so the players can focus on playing. Glen should grab his crotch next time too!

a shame it didn't rebound onto the other team. if there was any instigating going on in the last 5 minutes...it was those creepy crap weasels bieksa and kesler.
hard to believe that they could out crap weasel perry, but just for a game...they did.
