PT Article - The List - Eugene Melnyk

Another great PT read - Re: Liver Transplant
Being a father, it is absolutely gut wrenching to me to think of not being a part of my son's life. Everything I do is for him, everything I am is because of him. Too many people lose their parents at the wrong times (it's never a right time i would think), but when it's too early...
I have a couple good friends who lost one or both parents early, and the things they would do, just to spend one more moment with their parents, breaks my heart.
I've talked to my wife many times about organ donation, and how I should sign up. I'd like to think that if any of friends or family were in need, I wouldn't hesitate to help if I could. It's an individual choice, but one I think I'll explore a bit further...

Was expecting that to be about the expansion draft protection list.
Great read. Curious, how many of you have registered for organ donation? I haven't. I plan to but whenever I go renew my license I just say I'll deal with it later. Not sure why.

If you live in AB, it's really easy to do. When you renew your license, you check "yes" for organ donor and then there is 2-3 question thing that lets you decide what you want to donate.

I renewed last week and checked yes, I'm pretty much willing to give up everything, no funeral for me.

An unused brain is a very nice gift.

I forgot how sick he was. Also fairly remarkable that the donor insisted on remaining anonymous, I think most people would take a run at a payday from a billionaire.

Please note that just because you check a box on your license does not necessarily mean your organs will be donated. Your family makes the actual decision after the fact, so you should ensure they understand your wishes, and will heed them.

Good for him, and an amazing quote from his daughter.
I also never knew that about the liver (it growing back in full). If there was a paid leave for donors, I'm sure we'd see a lot more people willing to save a life.

When my first wife of 3 months passed at 22 years old organ donation was the furthest thing from our mind. However when we had the accident it was a no brainer to say yes when the docs came in to ask.
As a 23 year old guy I didn't really grasp the gravity of what had happened. I was angry that my wife passed away, I hated the world. I remember getting letters from the recipients and I just tossed them in a drawer and moved on. Thinking about it was to hard. A while later I sat down with the letters and realized how important they were. It helped me realize that while my wife's physical body wasn't any longer in this world that her presence was still here. This game me some solace and helped me through a part of my grieving process.
Donating organs is very important me. It's a personal decision but I hope everyone considers what organ donation can do and how much it can help.

same in BC. i just renewed my license a few weeks ago.
my favourite part was on the organ donation form that icbc gives you it has a section for 'personal message' (or something along those lines). i might have written "GO FLAMES GO!!"

I still don't understand why so many people choose caskets and plots. Tying up useful land for centuries and denying sick people an opportunity from your organs seems unethical. Think about the optics if it wasn't death. If it was foreign investors buying land and sitting on them when cities could use that land. Or if someone saw a dying person on the street and just walks over them to leave them to die. MLAs would be up in arms.

Everything but my eyes... I've had so many concussions that I wish I could see my brain when they cracked open my skull. It may not be useful for intelligence, but perhaps it can shed some light on some depression and PTSD to help others down the road.
Great read though.
