Totally different perception of this game
Flames turned the puck over a few too often, that happens when you get pressure you arent used to. Ducks are good at applying that pressure.
Overall I really enjoyed that game, thought the Flames had room for improvement and the Ducks looked a lot like the Ducks of two years ago. Flames looked good... just need to tighten it up a bit.

Cali Panthers Fan, I normally agree with a lot of things you say but I think you're a bit off base tonight on a number of those gems.
The Ducks third goal was a direct result of a terrible play by Bartkowski. He had the puck behind the net with nobody pressuring him and tried to slap it around the boards. Play was read like a baby book by Getzlaf and picked off easily, beautiful pass and a goal.
I think the Flames got exactly what they deserved tonight. They gave up a ton of high quality scoring chances, gave the puck away more times than I can count and didn't clear the zone when they had easy opportunities. They got dragged into the Ducks style of play just like they did against the Kings the other night and it does not suit them well.
I'd also argue that Elliott made closer to 5 or 6 incredible saves on the night but on the last goal, he should have caught that soft wrister from Kesler and held it for a faceoff.

If Rasmus is not playing, it better to send him to the AHL.

The odd thing about Bartkowski's major gaffe tonight was that Engelland got away with the exact same play earlier in the game, and it even turned into a decent scoring chance.
What Bartkowski probably didn't realize was that it was an extremely dumb lucky play by Engelland. He wasn't lucky.

Wanted to beat LA to clinch; better to beat San Jose in a four point game.
Wanted to beat Anaheim at home; better to beat them in Anaheim to get rid of the stupid curse.
Another "Big boy" game that they lost -- need to answer back on Tuesday.

Isn't that how it always works against the Ducks? Pucks bouncing off player asses, deflecting like a pinball into the net, homing in through a wall of players to find twine. The Ducks just always seem to have the answer against the Flames, and Tuesday will probably just be more of the same

Grass is greener, I get that, but I just don't know if what people want from the 6/7 role is something that exists on any team in the league.
I don't know because I don't watch every team's 6/7, but I can't say any of them make me jealous.
|
I agree 100% and would suggest that the time for playing rookies in those roles is early in the season. IMO, barring major injuries it will be Bart or Wideman in the 6-hole other than MAYBE the game vs the Kings (and certainly not in the playoffs). Tonight's game was no place for first NHL games.

Probably, but who knows.. maybe the Flames will get one more bounce than them.
I know at the very least they'll be better. Win once and they know they can do it there again if it comes to a playoff series between the two.

Right on the money. I actually think Bartkowski had a really good game until he turned a chance to win the game into giving the game away with no one else's help. I thought Engelland was atrocious all night. Drifting nowhere taking no one on 3 of 4 goals and about 5 needless icings.

Don't worry Flames fans, we'll have to face Gibson on Tuesday as well.

It will not happen in the next 1-2 months but the Flames can really use a top 6 player(a winger), that can score 55-60 points, the team needs another threat.
Let's just move on and be ready for the next one.

Why be concerned on the opponent?...let's make sure they're all healthy and rested up for Game 1
They've clinched, let's have Elliott and anyone with nagging injuries given some rest over the last few games.
The side benefit is to give the depth players some ice time before the playoffs begin

they are more or less at the same level when they have the puck. engelland at least seems to know his limitations more. he stays back, doesn't try to do too much most of the time, and defers to his partner when transitioning. bartkowski tries and fails too often. either way it's not good to have two defensemen who can't do that much with the puck playing on the same pairing.
many playoff teams have better bottom pairings. of course the 5/6 defensemen aren't going to be world-beaters, but i don't think it's too much to ask for a pairing who won't spend nearly every shift pinned in their own zone giving up shots and chances.
bottom-end depth has been a weakness all season, and i hope as much as anyone else that they will make it work for the playoffs. on the bright side it's relatively simple to fix.

since when?
Calgary has SJ (likely without jumbo)
LA losing to Arizona and about to be out of the playoffs
Win those two games and what they do doesn't matter...and who knows maybe a win in Anaheim for good measure
Calgary has 92 points FYI

Remember when Gaudreau was the healthiest human on the hockey team cause he was too slippery to get crunched by anyone?
Want to see that swagger and slickness back in Gaudreau. I feel like he lets things get to his head with the non-calls and all, then goes and puts himself in vulnerable places now.

I see the over reactions are out in force.
Anyone who didn't expect a let down after clinching with 4 games to go was fooling themselves. If anything, I'm impressed they stuck with it as well as they did - didn't go away and didn't back down.
On to Cincinnati.
