I thought it would have been way worse than that. Flames have dominated the matchup for almost 20 years.

Oilers will need a hell of a lot more than 1 good year to start bragging about anything in regards to the BOA.

I think you're taking this way too seriously. I look on this thread as entertainment - often funny observations of the general no-goodness of the Oilers and all things Edmonton. Sure, some observations are off the mark, and sometimes things get too personal. But it's a carryover of the long history of rivalry between the two cities augmented by the ineptitude of the 21st century Oilers, and their undeserved good fortune in landing another generational talent in McDiver.

I know I've said this before on here, but after living there for 8 years recently, trust me they say the same stuff, maybe even worse. In fact when I was there, Vancouver was our arch rival at the time (whereas we were still Edmonton' s), so the vitriol just made me laugh at the time because the hate was so much more coming from their side. I didn't even care about the Oilers at the time they were so off the radar. It's definitely a two way street.
And as always, there's a bit of tongue in cheek lippy element here I think we're all aware about. Just sports rivalry stuff, I think we all know it's just (North American) sports. After living there so long, most of my friends are now Oilers fans. It's just fun to chirp your rivals. Don't take the comments so seriously

I like to think that there's two sides to this thread
-Oilers fans that get worked up and take this seriously
-Flames fans that get worked up and take this seriously
-Oilers who troll the thread
and the other side
-Those of us who sit back and laugh at everything no matter who's getting burned or worked up

This. A team so historically no good that even the rivalry became no good because of their sheer no goodness.
Now the rivalry is back in business and as far as I can tell there might not even be an NHL team in Vancouver anymore?

There's a team in Vancouver but it's kind of a cross between an AHL and NHL roster so it's hard to get overly invested on hating on a team that's not really NHL caliber.

Really? We've been doing it for years with the Oilers.

Yes, but my level of hate for Edmonton is far greater than it is for Vancouver. I only truly hate Vancouver when they're good. When they're bad I just pity them.
With the Oilers I hate them any time. Their buffoons like Lucic, Kassian, Maroon, and Nurse are on par with Burrows, Kesler, Bieksa, and Lapierre from the 2011 Canucks.
McDavid is easy to hate too. Just hearing his name or even just reading the word "McDavid" makes my blood boil.
Edmonton is no good.

I dunno. Lucic and Maroon are pretty decent players.
Kassian and Nurse define lunkheaded buffoonery though. They are straight up NO GOOD.

They have 8 players with 10+ goals compared to the Flames that have 12. Dougie Hamilton would be 3rd in Oilers scoring. It's pretty obvious that teams will focus on shutting down the McDavid line in the playoffs and if they accomplish that the Oilers will go down easy. I will say that Talbot will keep things close if he's not worn out.

As much as Oiler fans think that their regular season success is going to lead to success in the playoffs I have trouble thinking that its going to translate.
A team going up against the Oilers is going to focus their game planning on one team and that makes every game a battle.
Any team that plays the Oilers is going to clog the neutral zone when McDavid is on the ice and not let him get his speed up in the neutral zone. They're also going to push the play into the corners.
McDavid's not going to get to free wheel much.
The Oilers actually have to hope that it won't be there first line that's their only good line during the regular season.
I also bet that any team is going to count on the loser officiating and lean on McDavid a lot.
In the end of the day since I'm predicting that the Oilers will be bounced in the first round that the epitath on the Oilers gravestones will be "The referee's screwed us because they let our opponents touch Conner.
Oh and that diving stuff that McDavid does probably won't fly in the playoffs, look what happened with Vancouver where the refs effectively punished the Canucks for their regular season embellishments.

The only thing which will be scary about the Oilers in the play offs is the preferential treatment McDavid is going to get from the refs.

I don't see that happening in the playoffs.
Its one thing to give a player preferential treatment during the regular season. Its a far different thing in the playoffs.
And if McDavid needs preferential treatment, then he's not the superstar that they think he is.

That's just something Flames fans made up anyway.
He doesn't get special treatment.
